Conditions Report

For all of the closet MCP riders here is a conditions report. I hit the trails at 7AM this morning and hit just about all of the trails 2 1/2 hr later I came out. Most of the trails are suprisingly in good tacky shape. Of course the closer to the water you are there are some muddy sections and standing water. Nothing too horrible. The worst section is across the lake where the Crew boats are stored on the red trail between the crew house and the dam. All in all you can get a good ride in. Quick question for the JORBA lead there if they are listening what is going on with all the over hanging trees? I don't know if I didn't notice it before, but I hit 3 of them with my camelback hard enough that it broke my hand pump. There are some fallen trees on some of the trails that need work and one section near the lake by the big tower was flooded completely by the lake. Hope this helps someone.

Red trail between the Crew house and dam?

Thanks for the trail report. If you could send an email to
smart.jorba at gmail.com I will read it for sure

You lost me with the red trail near the crew house (Olympic rowing center).

The blue trail goes by the rowing center and then loops north and east back to the east picnic area. There are no legal trails going from the rowing center to the dam. That would take you onto the golf course which is off limits to bikers

Is that is where you encountered the low hanging trees?

The last two TM days we were working on drainage issues on the Blue trail (north side of the lake) We were either raising the tread with mulch or digging drainage nicks to minimize the puddling We also put markers up from the east picnic area to the rowing center.

We were only 9 volunteers in March and 5 in April I made the April day but I'm recuperating from heart bypass surgery so I'm not at full speed yet. With a small group it takes a while to get to all of the trails. We usually work on the water problems in early spring then start trimming the thorns after were done with the water. If you see any trees across the trail or half down please e-mail me

The trail near the white finish line tower on the south side of the lake floods after it rains Get used to it if your going to ride the trails after 5 days of rain
Mercer and 6 mile take a while to drain

I was out to the park this morning and I'm afraid I don't share your assessment of the trails. I went home and got out my road bike

The next TM day is Saturday May 16th We can always use an extra hand

Regards,
Mick

The low hanging trees were in 3 seperate areas. No they were not back by the rowing center. I called that trail "red trail" because there are trees back there with red markings on them. Was not aware those were not "legal" trails Will do the best I can to describe not sure what you call for Lingo the areas.

Low Trees are near these areas:
Behind the old house with the fence around it

Between the Tennis Courts and where the trail that runs behind those ends up back on the asphalt path

The third is near the BMX pit if you are heading away from the marina towards the direction of Quakerbridge road.

There is an actual tree down if past the two bridges on the blue trail. Its fallen in front of a log over there.

Am going to try and make the 16th date TM. If you have any questions you can PM would be glad to try and better describe where I mean.

Thanks

southernerinnj,

Thanks for clarifying the report. As I said we haven't started our annual beat back of the thorns and brush. I'll check on the tree tomorrow

Looking forward to meeting you

Mick
