Diary of a Macman

I just got back from the ortho after having my knee drained and steroid injection in the IT Band and Lat. Ret, but he did tell me to jump on the bike and pedal. Injuries suck and there is alway the perception "why me?" even though almost every athlete at the olympics is plagued with some kind of nagging problem. Be very careful with that ankle in the pool as well. Sounds funny, but after years of swimming and thousands of flip-turns, I had some ankle and foot issues that bothered me for several years. Laziness and bad form at the walls and on the bike can hurt as much as trail running.

Sorry about your knee. I had an mri on my knee and recently had an xray but they can't see any issues there. I went swimming this morning, the thrid day in a row. Basicly my sore foot effect my back stroke, so I don't do much back stroke. Mostly freestyle some breast stroke and some zipper switch drills. I don't do flip turns and I can see how it can injure ones foot. I have a descent enough rebound off the wall as I tuck feet together and do a superman glied with hands crosses 6 in beneath the water.

The mcreynolds ankle brace I got yesterday fits good and I can use it on eiher foot

brick-a-brack

Yet another franklin lakes brick. Bike was slower than previous 2 weeks of 19mph and change. Today went at 18mph. The run was at a solid 10 min pace my average pace good considering my recent foot injuries on the bike ave hr was 160 with 180 max. Here is the bike route ob google

moving time of 1 hr 16 minute and change was 1 minute and change over par for this ride. someone went down recently on this route avoiding the deer so i rather go 1 minute slower than 1 minute too fast. also the cheap bontrager select wheels suk for this route. maybe upgrade to neuvation aero easton or another rear mavic 'bomb proof krysium sl' which came with the trek but the campy groupset went to my newer giant tcr advanced (w/campy cluster), now that trek is mostly dura ace 9-spd

national bike to work day

We had great weather here in north jersey for national bike to work day. I celebrated by getting in a full tri work out of

  1. swim before work
  2. bike to work
  3. run at lunch

Btw: used my new cw- tri shorts and they are great. Glad I scored 2 pairs last nite when I get this years singlet from glen rock tri:popcorn:

Can you post a pic or link for the CW shorts? I'm always on the look out. Being 135-140 lbs, I'm really out of luck. The DeSoto shorts are great but have too little padding. I like the old school Craft Tri Shorts. The padding rocks on long mountain bike rides, but they are scary short. As far as tops and singlets, my Zoot tops never last more than a season, but the DeSoto and Iron Man tops have been excellent.

Btw. I arrived in Jersey Wed. and am riding myself silly at the moment. Post your mnt rides ahead of time if you would like company and maybe I'll join you.

here's a pic of the cw shorts. Where i bought them they were 60 bux each but i got a 20% discount th night of the club meeting. normally the tri club gets 15%, i don't know why bigger discount then the bike club gets 10%, maybe since they figure you gotta buy crap for 3 sports

after 1 hr yesterday on the road bike no worries, but an addiotnal 3.5 hrs, my tukas was indeed sore. they csr at the shop showed me a longer pair that looked cool for mtb but i think she said for winter running w/less padding

my LG tri shorts fabric is thicker, while another pair i have and she was selling was much lighter and is worn-out after 1 year

Cool, thanks for posting. I gave up on the crap for 3 different sports and mostly wear tri stuff all the time, especially since my main riding areas are in hot climates where less is better. People give me funny looks in Jersey, but usually I'm going so fast there's not much to look at. Definitely not a fan of running in lycra though.

I was hoping the CW short had some real padding. The typical riding shorts have such huge pads that I get caught on the seat while throwing the bike around, and the tri shorts just leave me sore after 2+ hour rides. I need a compromise.

BTW. There are some serious epics rides by connecting N. Allamuchy with Deer Park and Stephens. I managed 38 miles of fantastic riding today. High mnt is on the list

I have one pair of mtb shorts. It has good padding and although near leg is baggy, waiste is too tight. I just have a big belly and tri singles show it. As a roadie mentioned my love handles the other day. [He lost more weight than me] road races may require. Sleaves. Also hi mtn has tics so I wore running lycra pants under tri single and long sleeves

Today I started my regular river rd Tuesday morning ride
9 seconds under par of 1 hr 15 min

I have sprint tri in june frknl lakes and mtn man biaton in oct although doing lewis morris race loop in june

untrue wheel & mtb commute

My bontrager select wheels performed better on river rd with hutch training tires althiugh I had issues getting those tires to seat on my mavics. I looked into getting another set of mavics, cxp 33 with 105 hubs used, but opted insteat for a new set of neuvations and the bontrager rear gets the cheap bontrager tire suiteable for the trainer

M28 x aero neuvation should be a nice addition to my dura ace laden trek post office 2003 bike

Todays commute on the mtb

swimming laps

this is my 1st video of me swimming this year. i made one video last year before i hired a total immersion coach. my right elbow doesn't get raised enough. i think it's from my broken collar bone of 2 years ago. either way i am able to do a fair amount of laps w/o break, so hopefully i do a bit better on the swim leg of the upcoming franklin lakes triathlon

the mtb was great i was towards the front of the pack w/1 or 2 other dudes, that semi knew the course, we made a wrong turn towards the end, looped around hooked up w/2 other dudes then a gal w/mtbnj kit said just follow the yellow back to the lake:popcorn:

then I got 3 good sets of laps in at the pool, so i got in a good reverse tri, no weights, but the weather was to good to be in side
