Dropper Post- Would You Do It Again? Worth the Headaches?

rigid with a dropper post on a non-fat bike would be weird, kind of like a rear suspension bike with a rigid fork

A dropper really helps you bunny hop too. Thats useful to errbady...

I'm currently beta testing this exact setup, with a KS Lev.

Think of it this way; On the rigid bike, you are the suspension. Anything that allows me to move my body around on the bike without worrying about the saddle getting in the way, seems to be a good idea.

I will admit that I'm concerned about complicating my rigid SS, but so far it 's been interesting to see how I can benefit from the dropper.

Here is a question. Why do the downhill / park guys have their seats points up?

if my ass slams the seat or the rear bucks up on descents, since i'm already weight biased towards the rear, its more flat instead of just the back end of the saddle smacking me. and since downhill more often than not, it works out to the saddle being level.

i cant see myself riding anything short flat gravel roads without a dropper. two things I have learned about the way i ride, I like to weight the front wheel and get low on the bars for front end grip and i like to let the bike move freely underneath me. The dropper helps with both.

No, and no. Thomson setback forever.

But I did loan a Reverb for the Whole Enchilada from this guy.

And now my bike looks like this.... Ridiculous

I would give up rear suspension, gears, and the color orange before i gave up my dropper post. I use it as often as I used to use a front derailleur.

Lowering your body in turns lowers your center of gravity and puts you into a more athletic position and helps to keep you from "getting caught on your heals"(think about any professional ball-sport player or boxer, do you ever see them standing up with their knees straight when they might need to strafe from side to side?)

So dropped the dropper off at Halters (Really, really liking Halters as a shop. Since their move they are 5 minutes from my house and are totally my shop! Additional Props- no 'tude for asking to install other products from other shops which I thought was very classy) So psyched to get my steed back- dropper post, Vittoria Morosa tires (look really sweet).

Bump this post- been on the dropper post for about 6 weeks- it is grrrreat! I don't drop it all the time but do so for technical sections that always have hung me up. I did not appreciate how getting low into the bike is really where the benefit pops for me. Getting behind the seat was never an issue for me so I always questioned the value of a dropper. Hoping the post proves to be durable at least for the season and assume that a regular maintenance schedule (like suspension) should be implemented. I did see that a start up company has developed a similar post to the Specialized but uses a coil spring vs air. Obviously a weight penalty but could see this being potentially more durable. If I was in the market again I would be giving that a look. I think it is called the Rainier.

Rainier comes in 27.5 and is around $250... Not trying to spend your money, just sayin... 😉

Totally appropriate for an XC rig...

Summer time all droppers work . It's when it gets below freezing that they stop working😉

Haven't had any problems with Command Posts not working in the cold. Similar to a fork it does slow down a bit, but that's really not a negative with that post. Lighter grease helps there too.

I had a ks and a reverb and both failed on cold days. My specialized seemed better, but I got it towards the end of winter so I wasn't sure. That's reassuring though.

For the cost I don't feel the benefits are high enough. Mostly because I'll forget it's there and never use it. Half the time I forget to unlock my fork when going from commute mode to trail riding mode. If I'm spending 200+ on something it better be pretty damned spectacular. Or I'm just getting cheap as I approach 40.
