E-bikes are a thing

It will happen eventually. I'm not looking forward to when the insurance companies start jacking up our rates due to potential ebike fires.

The safety side of it is pretty intense if you actually follow the rules. Even as a big corporation with lawyers out the gazoo, we have no plan for a lithium incedent despite it being 100% mandatory. I just keep our battery stock and bad units in the window so hopefully they explode and I'll get out of work for a few days.

Totally off topic. Does Turbo Studio diagnostics show if a belt has slipped occasionally or do we just have to wait till it's toast?

I have zero issues with ebikes and will get one at some point. But this was a new one on my ride yesterday in the Carlton preserve. Guy on an ebike smoking a cigarette. At least he was wearing a helmet!

As an aside, How are the Carlton trails? Good XC style system? I'll be down in Port for a couple weeks in Feb and thought i'd bring my hardtail to log some miles. That and Myakkahatchee.

That's the Garmin Varia rear camera. I rode to the trails from home so had it on. Yeah Carlton is great - 50+ miles of trails. 20+ singletrack. Where are you staying - Port Charlotte?

Belt inside the motor? Event Log in the Bike Information part of Turbo Studio will show Error Codes. A mechanical way to check for belt issues is to see if the bikes rolls backwards freely, if it's clunky or binds the belt is bad.

Yes, wife's fam has a place down in port charlotte. Need to do some work on the place so will be there for 2 weeks. Can only spend so much time sitting in the pool and drinking beer. 😄 Maybe a trip to famous Alafia could be arranged. Vids of that place are awesome.

Alafia and Balm Boyette are about 1.5 hr drive from P. Charlotte. Well worth the drive

This is very close to PC right off 75. Fun little loop - only one way (and it rotates every month). One section has some challenging allyoops.

Well the big reason is speed as you're carrying higher speeds more easily. But doesn't seem applicable here.

But yeah, this 100% seems like more of an issue of teaching proper bike riding skills such as where to ride in the road, how to be predictable, etc. Or proper driver education for the driver that him them in the intersection, etc.

Impossible to say without exactly knowing. Could be they darted into the intersection at 25mph. Or it could be a driver texting while driving?

Yes and no. These ebikes for kids are the new mopeds. Just as fast, or even faster in some cases than the older mopeds, but ridden by kids who have no clue as to what the rules of the road are. To them and their parents, they're still just "bikes" and are ridden as such. Most don't even wear helmets. With mopeds you needed to pass a test to get the license, there were basic requirements. With kids on ebikes there should to be basic requirements, at least learn the rules of the road (and maybe some common sense?). Unless of course everyone is good with leaving it all up to Darwin?

this seems like a good idea, if your parents dont care enough to teach you the basics what is the motivation for society at large to do it?

He was legally required to wear a helmet. I would wager if he was wearing one be would still be alive. This particular case has nothing to do with ebikes.

I have a stupid, but legit question for you experienced e-bike folk. I’m going to assume you guys get your e-bikes wet at times, I almost gave my new steed a wash and stopped. I’m assuming no pressure washing or submerging, but a shower should be ok…..right?

Your judgment is correct, I try to expose as little water as possible. I had one issue with direct water that sent error codes.
