Fire!

Some may already know but my car was involved in a fire and saw this morning my insurance pulled an estimate on the car and it's says around $13k. $8k in parts and $5k in labor. Labor is billed at $50/hr. The labor looks pretty low to me and not to mention, lot of the parts are from salvage yards. Now.. my insurance hasn't called me to discuss this yet but was posted online. Not knowing what the process is, am i to take this estimate at face value? I do know that I can take it to the repair facilities of my choosing.

Also, they missed some details like tires. I am pretty sure they melted a bit but didn't see cost of tires on the itemized list.

In my experience, a quality shop will Work with the insurance company to “fight” for what’s right for the vehicle.

I’ve had them go to bat for me and negotiate more work that was originally laid out from the insurance company.

Good luck!!

If they want the car repaired, I am going to take it to the dealer so they can also properly assess any mechanical or electrical damages as well. The insurance quote listed only .2hrs for mechanical/electrical. Could be right but I am skeptical to say the least.

I've seen on Edmunds around $17k to $23k for 2012 Acura TL SHAWD with around 44k

Wow - you are close. And the labor rate has to be at least 50% higher - this is "their" insurance company telling you this?
Have you spoken to your insurance company for additional guidance?

and yeah, every wiring harness in the car is probably screwed up....

@extremedave to the rescue!

The quote is from my insurance. They posted it online and my claims person has not called me yet but I suspect the phone call to come today perhaps.

I wouldn't take anything on face value with a fire, because the first thing they do with a car fire is a very thorough arson investigation. I would wait until they call you and you have a conversation with the actual adjuster. Once they've cleared you, then they will talk to you.

How is it not considered a loss? I thought if the total repair is more than 50% of the value? Which in this case, even at your estimate, if above that percentage. Can you try to go through your insurance instead and have them duke it out with the others insurance?

Is it 50%? I thought the repair cost has to be equal or exceed worth of the damaged car...

Here is the estimate I got from my insurance. Not sure but I thought that $50 rate was pretty low and that .2hrs on mech/elec? Maybe... but all I can do is laugh.
