First ride at 6 mile

Well I went to six mile today as my second ride as a mountain biker. I started in the Jaques Rd lot and started at the trailhead on the left. All was fine and then it looked like the red trail split and part was for hiking only so I went left. Somehow I ended up at canal road so I went down the blue trail. I found out later from a nice guy that was at the lot that I should have gotten onto the red trail on the right side of the parking lot. Did just over six miles and then was gassed.

Are there any beginner rides from 6 mile? I would have had a better time if I had a better idea where I was going

I'll probably be out there next weekend for an easy ride. Most likely doing a full loop which is almost 15mi or maybe just a half loop, depends how much time I have, been working 7 days a week. You can tag along if you want. I'll know for sure mid week.

I was out there today for the 1st time, started from Rt. 27 lot took the red and white trail and back. I'm a newbie to MTB and Six Miles was enough for me...be out there again in a few weeks.

rlwjr...I can ride with you...I usually take off from the 27 lot. Let me know when you are going to be out there next and I can show you around.

Is there a hiking only sign there? I collected all of them a while ago, one must have gotten away from me, or been put back up somehow.....

All trails are open to all users. There are no trails that exclude cycling at Six Mile Run.

I took the trailhead on the left side of the jacques lot and after a very short ride on the trail you could either go slight right or a hard left. I went to the slight right and saw a trail marker and it only had the hiker sign on it. Maybe the small bike part of the sign fell off. Ona blue trail a saw a hiking only sign too but to be honest I don't remember where

I know exactly what your talking about lol , it confused me until I asked some guy and he said just don't worry about it .

All the trails are multi-use.

There were hiker only trails there before we started working on the system. So yeah.. that is kind of a big deal.

Not to hijack the thread but thought it relevant...
Me and wife had a blast yesterday at 6m as well but got lost at orange and part of red. Hoping to get some tips here.

-any tips on not getting lost in orange(coming from middlebush) and also how to get to the rt27 lot from orange? We made it there but it was a blurr with trial and error and can'tremember how anymore.
-from the rt27 lot, taking red all the wAy back to canal, got lost and somehow found the campsite. Is this the right route?there were several trails off the campsite as well.

What confused us mostly were the clearings that had trails going both directions. Any info would be great! Thanks!

In the twistes (orange) keep going the same direction at each split (i.e. all lefts or all rights) and you'll get through. If you look close the trail markers are usually a few feet down the trail after each intersection to give you a clue. Keep left if you're going S. Middlebush to 27, keep right if you're going in the opposite direction.

There's also an arrow on the signs with the intended route. I think it's keep right from 27 to SMB, then keep left going from SMB to 27... But I think we are over complicating it. In the trail directory there are turn by turn directions.

All of the trail markers before turns on orange have arrows on them. When I (and M3Tim) installed the marker posts, we made sure every turn option on orange had an arrow to guide you, both ways.

You missed a trail marker when you ended up at the camp. You should only be on the gas line trail for a short time following red. There are tree markers on the trails off the pipeline trail. Look at h7 on the map.

I always have my phone with me while im riding , i put on my pandora and listen to some tunes, i also keep a jpeg of the trails/map . Six mile run is VERY easy and clear to ride, dunno how you managed to get lost 😀 , happens tho i guess ,

What type of terrain is the white trail? Always wanted to try it, but I like that portion of the red after it splits and never have time to go back.

White has some short ups and downs on it. Not twisty like orange. Some nice bench cut sections on a side slope.

Its a great trail, much better than what your riding when you pass it up..... 🙂

Last time I was there a few weeks ago I did this loop . I parked at lot rt 27 at soccerfields . Went red / orange / red / white / and took red all the way back to soccerfields . Was a good run stamina wise for me .
