Going Long and Hard.

Pinelands 400k pre-ride.

Take 2 on this thing. Nice and chilly in the morning. Started with a long sleeve base and a light pair of tights.

Was pretty windy all day. 80 miles to Egg Harbor were fairly uneventful except for a sidewind that would push the front end around.

The 70 miles across to Alloway were straight into a stiff headwind. Really slow going. But, no flats!!

Was hoping for somewhat of tailwind for last 100 but it ended up being a sidewind from the other way.

At some point the temps really dropped and I put all my warm stuff back on. Was good until the last section after Control 8. It got so cold. I ended up finishing at 2am in 19.5 hours. It took hours to stop shivering...Slept for a few hours and then went into work. Totally out of it today...

Cold? That ain't cold. I've heard there are these idiots who race their bicycles across Alaska in the Winter.

Glad I got to do this on Tuesday!! Just got home from my Volunteer Shift. Everyone seemed to be in good spirits despite the weather. Headwinds like I had Tuesday but then it's been raining during the return North. Randonneurs are a different breed of human.

Some Yomp Rally prep. Just going through and finalizing some gear choices. Running a fairly light setup for an overnight in the woods. There's 2 spots to stop on day 1 at mile 50ish and like 90, then Rapha will have a stop before heading into the woods at mile 130ish. Then it's 165 fully unsupported miles with zero facilities and only natural water supplies. Somewhere in that section is where my first, and hopefully only overnight will be. Hopefully hit Santa Barbara the 2nd day around lunch time. See how that goes and make the decision to ride through the night or take a 2nd overnight and finish Monday morning. Or it all goes to shit and it takes until Monday morning to do the first loop. Layers are not in this photo because they're at the tailor getting repaired. I broke my zipper.

What do you use for chain lube for events like this or in general for your gravel/off road rides. ?

Been having issues recently with the lube rinsing off when the conditions are too damp on the gravel bike where I would typically stay indoors a gravel ride is a good option.

I need a tailor to lengthen my mtb jacket sleeves. Who you got?

A little more dicking around with the STR. Swapped the stem out for a 90mm so it's more comfy. Also threw a few spacers under the Futureshock for the top tube bag strap so it doesn't interfere with the suspension travel. Mounted the Dyno wiring and will hopefully get a shakedown tomorrow or Tuesday.

I also kicked my return flight back a day to give me a little wiggle room. I didn't tell anyone at work so, shhh....

And everything except food and poofy things/sleep system, fits in the downtube!! Why does every bike not have this?

Looks like I'm not carrying enough gear for this ride, but, I'm pretty sure I am? Bike felt really good during today's Commute. Just under 35lbs all in with my work clothes in the bag. Should be about the same with a sleep system and poofy outfit. Maybe I have 5lbs of food to bring it up to 40lbs? Not sure. It's not getting weighed again at this point...
