Next bike project to replace Rusty2 has been kinda fun. Have been trying to source an OG 24 hole Zipp 404 rim, which is impossible. So then I had Zipp 404 saved as a search on eBay and waited for something to pop up. Bid and lost a few auctions. Then a NOS Campy PowerTap 404 came up and since no one runs Campy I offered the guy $200 and he took it. Seems like a shame to cut it apart for the rim but that’s exactly what I did. Came with a brand new head unit too.

Frame will be here Monday. I’m running dual brakes so I had to get new levers and calipers. The hydro set up will be up for grabs but it’s sort of absurd so I doubt it’ll sell.

Pop-Dart.

The Dart is a weird Team Rando Event with a lot of rules. I wasn’t involved in any of the planning, I just registered as a rider needing a Team and Mac did the rest.

I got put on Team Sour Patch with a group I’ve actually never met before.

The event takes forever. You can’t leave the last Control before 6-hours. And it’s only 120k so there’s so much lollygagging and screwing around 😂

Somehow we ended up screwing around so much that we actually had to go pretty hard at the end to make the 8-hour cutoff.

Next up is the Grand Canyon 200k in PA. Heads out from Jersey Shore and goes north. Looks like it’ll be a lot of fun. I set up the Caledonia in Gravel Mode and rode it up all the hills and whatever dirt I could get into to/from work.

Also running a 36t cassette even though Dura-Ace isn’t supposed to go over 34.

Ain’t care.

Making progress on this build.

Re-laced the front wheel with black nipples so the wheelset would match. Using round spokes in the rear but you can’t tell…

Tried 2 different fork options to see which way the bike fits better. First is internal so the front end is steeper.

Second will run an external lower and bump the front out like a degree. And it looks cooler so…#2. I just have to order the headset.

Also waiting for a rear caliper so this will be a next week project. I also want to order matte black Zipp stickers for the 404s.
