Greetings from Central Jersey

Hey guys, I'm a young rider looking to get some more experience on the trails. I've lived in Central Jersey my whole life and have always ridden around at local parks, but now I'm starting to get into more exciting trails such as Six Mile Run.

I recently put down a deposit on a new 2008 Giant Trance x2. It's for $1800, any input on to whether it's a good/bad purchase or if I could get the shop to drop the price a bit? From what I've been reading, it's starting to look like I'm about to overpay 🙁

Welcome to the site. Trance 2 for sure is a solid bike, test ride it and see if u like it and if its worth it to u, it is lots of green to spend, check ur messeges

Thanks for the welcomes!

I put the deposit down on the bike at Halter Cycles after testing out the x3 and x4. I intended on purchasing the 2010 x3, but they didn't have any mediums and offered me the 2008 x2 for $1800, which is seemingly a better bike. It sounded reasonable at the time, but now that I see people only paid $1600 a year ago, I'm starting to have second thoughts.

I wouldn't have any second thoughts about the price....you pay a little bit more at a LBS, especially if you are a first time customer. It is well worth it in my opinion especially if you are new.

That shop has a great reputation and will take care of any problems that you have. I buy my bikes from my LBS and it saves me on labor in the long run. I'm not mechanically inclined at all. Any upgrades I get there is usually no labor charged or it is very minimal. There are many other reasons but I'm sure others will chime in... I don't know much about the bike you bought, but the guys in that store won't lead you in the wrong direction.

I hope it's not the reviews at MTBR.com that are making you believe that people paid 1600$ a year ago. Those reviews are whack!!! if you have an x1, x2, x3 or x4 all those people will post in one thread not even for their model, i saw that shit too and was like how in the hell did this guy pay 1800 for a bike i just spent 2700 on that came out a few months ago? but turns out he was reviewing a different model, like many others on my bikes thread just do to the fact that not every model is up for review and people post up in the closest thing they can find.
And by the way Halters guys are great, join jorba, they will discount all the accessories you buy from them by 10% with the purchase of a new bike and they will for sure take care of all those parts that are going to start flying off after a few good rides. You are at the right shop to say the least. Good luck on your ride
