Back in Jersey for Day 8. Felt good to be in the rocks again. Hit up Dickerson Mine and conditions were beyond perfect. I was a little stiff from the 12 hr drive yesterday but surprisingly felt great on the bike. Tomorrow I’m on the road again at 4am to drive to Boston. A little nervous as I may not be able to bring my bike... anyone know if they do a bike share in the Cambridge area? Might have to “demo” a bike for an hour lol.

Day 8: Dusted the DH bike off for the first time this year. Holy shit, I'm out of shape for gravity riding. More or less did OK until 3/4 through my last run when I stuffed the front wheel in a switch back and went OTB, with the bike landing on my head. Rung my bell a bit.

I am now seriously reconsidering a Nomad 4. I think I may be done with 27.5 wheels. Even with 8" of travel, it felt like I couldn't roll over anything. Or more accurately, I'm not strong enough to let the M16C go fast enough to "work" if that makes any sense.

Anyway...

Such a pretty day for riding. And Blue Mtn now has Gravity Logic trays!!

Pulled pork grilled cheese sandwich. Surprisingly good. Or I was just really hungry... Being able to ride to the bar for half decent food is one of the good things about riding at Blue Mtn. Even if sitting on the terrace in riding gear gets strange looks from other patrons.

Day 8 - Good Day - Picked up a weeride for the kiddo this morning. Gonna find him a helmet and give that a go.

Rode Nassau - Gotta give the crew who works there such a hearty thanks. Great maintenance and trail design.

Chatting with an older gentleman in the parking lot, in our discussion, he mentions that his son is my age. We get ready and he follows me up that huge first climb. I'm coming up with witty comments for when he passes me. "Do your legs know how old you are?" or "Must feel good to be in better shape than someone your son's age". Get to the top he turns and I realize a) that was probably the fastest i've ever done that climb b) i haven't started recording on strava yet.

Day 7 we rode the Columbia Trail for 1:29. Saw lots of folks having fun at the fair in Califon. A band started playing in High Bridge when we started riding and we heard the last 2 songs after we finished. Sounded like a good time!

Day 8 we took the cross bikes out on the road and hit up a few dirt roads for a total of 2:10. Beautiful day to be out on a bike! Saw a red tail hawk, but was too slow to take a photo.

Day 8 - spent the day out in Trexlertown watching Track Juniors National championships. I had several friend’s kids fly out from Washington to race so I went to spectate. Hmmmm, WA state was more represented than NJ. To get in a ride I went and explored the Lehigh trails. I don’t think I even covered half of whats there, I must go back!

Nice! I've heard about the trails out there but haven't had a chance to check them out.

In other news... My life just got a bit more complicated - it looks like I'm going back to Portsmouth, NH next weekend. For about 12 weeks. On the good side, I'll be within day-trip distance to Highland and Kingdom Trails and there's some nice road riding out that way. On the tough side, I have a ton of crap to get done at home before I can go. And one week to do it.

they have a citibike type of thing in the boston area - couple bucks a day - check the BlueBikes app.

Day 9: I did another nice recovery ride in Roxbury. I stopped to check out a random trail and not too far away I looked to the side of the bridge and caught a nice black bear roaming. Of course I wasn’t quick enough to get the camera out for the bear.

welp....thanks to a balky knee suffered on my independence day ride, i'm officially out, having taken it easy on the 5th and 6th and completely resting on the 7th.

by my math, i only was able to do 4.84 out of the first 7 days.

but, since this thread is so much fun, i'm going to stick around and will be attempting to complete my own abbreviated version!

the unofficial joe cervelli/pygmypony/halters 28.84 out of 28.84 days of july!

i got back on the bike yesterday for the first leg of a family canoe/kayak trip down the millstone.

the second leg was the canoe/kayak float down stream

it was a great day, and something i hope to do more often. it took a little bit of planning, and the hardest part was packing the car with 2 boats and 4 bikes! there were also 3 pretty tough portages that added some cool adventure to the trip.

here's the car fully loaded
