Hard pack, not technical and some distance?

So my ride is more a cross/trecking fatbike, stout, but 40mm tires on it and no suspension. I've been riding the paved paths, Thompson Park and the Edgar Felix...fine but I'm getting bored. I'm up to about 20 mile rides so far on relatively flat terrain.

I know about the canal Fatbike lane and that's on my list to check out. What else is out there that is hard pack without a ton of roots and relatively non-technical or steep? What's the best long mileage on gravel/hard pack I can find?

I'm an out of shape slob too so climbing in the woods is not on the plan yet.

I'm in Monmouth County but will drive around a bit too.

Ride is a Surly Ogre XXL frame

Avid BB7's
DT TK540 rims 36h XT hubs
Schwalbe Mondials 40mm
XT driveline
Cane Creek headset, levers
Surly nice rack

Nice ride. Honestly I think you'd do well at Allaire. Its not quite hard pack, but you can get by with those tires if you stay out of the loose (sandy) stuff. Don't discount yourself, just get in the trees. I guarantee you'll love it!

There's a nice map here (the 2010 version)

Thanks, I did Allaire years ago, but no clue what section I did.

It was just pure, sandy, hell. I had a Rockhopper then and each pedal stroke was a slip and spin. That and it was just covered in horse crap and downed branches. This was late 80's mind you.

I should look around again now.

I'll agree that 6 Mile would be best right now, considering the tires you're using. But don't discount Allaire, it's changed a bit since the late '80s.

want really flat and no technical at all? try manasquan reservoir.

Its a 5 mile loop. Very wide too so its easy to get around the other people using the path.

Depending on how far you want to drive, the Columbia Fatbike lane is nice too.

to add to AW's post depending on where you live you could ride to the manasquan reservoir do a loop then ride home.. for Fatbike lane stuff 6 mile is cross friendly for sure just try not to ride right after any type of rain...
