Hartshorne/Huber Conditions

Large tree across the Laurel Ridge Trail between the Buttermilk Valley parking area and intersection with Grand Tour. It is not far from the first downhill as you ride from Buttermilk Valley. Too large to move by myself. Called the ranger number, and hopefully it is gone soon.

it will probably get taken care of quickly, because that's an egress for park rangers to access injured people if need be.

Yesterday morning trail conditions were ok. Sand absorbed most of Friday's rain, but there was substantial erosion. Got pretty crowded with other trail users, but no problems.
A new tree was down I believe on grand tour, after intersection with laurel on south side of park. It's ridable, but not easily.

I was there tonight the erosion was pretty bad after the rains this weekend and it really overgrown in spots. Very little wet spots.

Rode hartshorne this morning. Unsurprisingly, conditions were dry...too dry. Dusty and sand traps were everywhere! On the crowded side too. Rated it 3, 2 if we don't get some rain soon. But hartshorne never disappoints; great ride!!

Thanks for posting! Is it still overgrown in areas such as by the bunkers?
I was there yesterday.

There is still overgrowth on Rocky Point and one section of Grand Tour, but it seems that someone went in there and trimmed things back enough to make the trails passable, at least for now.

... and they finally cut that accident-waiting-to-happen pointy waist-high broken tree trunk sticking out into Rocky Point near the beginning just before the short rocky climb (when entering from the Grand Tour end).

Some trimming definitely happened on Rocky Point heading East from the road where the dock is, but any other progress is probably just due to the drought or getting snagged on our bikes, jerseys, arms, teeth...

*All* of the overgrowth has been trimmed. Pretty thorough job, too. A big shout out to whoever did it.
I placed a phone call to the park maintenance people. If you want to say thank you to them here is the number.

Do not use this number for any reason other then positive messages. Contact me(I work for the MCPS) for trail issues and I will contact park guys.
thx.
