hello from monroe

new to the site
random thoughts:

i love vintage fatbikes - road and mtb
all my mtb are rigid
fav places to ride so far are six mile and harts
and i guess you can say that my home Fatbike lane is thompson in jburg
but i'd rather lose some time and hop in the car to go to harts or 6mile
looking to expand on my Fatbike lane experience (have also hit cheesecake and turkey swamp but not too much for me there)
love to grab a fat fatbike - they look like alot of fun

Welcome aboard
you should give mercer a shot some cool single track down there.
and you are pretty close...or watch the rides section and come down for an Allaire tour...

Marley,

Right now I ride a blue 02' Specalized Expedition Sport (more mtg fatbike than the current expedition which is more of a multi-use fatbike). I also use this fatbike on the street. I am most likely going to get a rockhopper sometime before the summer.

My wife also rides the same fatbike but GREEN and is currently using her fatbike more for street but we changed out her tires to something a bit less nobby. My wife is most likely going to get a road fatbike early this year.

If you ride thomson, some of the trails get soft and make it a pain to ride but there are a bunch of trails back there.

See ya around town!

Justin

it does get muddy - most of the parks do i guess - hartshorne seems to hold up pretty good

i got a great deal on my rockhopper - $25 and a little parts swap w a guy from rumson - fatbike is in great shape but it didnt fit him right

i like the rigid feel - i feel like i get a better whole body workout - i tried a full suspension for awhile and didnt enjoy it as much

i'm 40 and i my body can still handle it - i know some folks say as you get older you'll prefer at least some front suspension - we'll see

my wife doesnt ride - hasnt for many years - but i'm hoping she might get into at some point as the kids get older

Marley,

I am also 40 and prefer the front suspension of my specialized as opposed to my older rigid fork fatbike.

My daughter is 7 and loves to ride and is getting better at it. My son is only 5 and just still mucking around with training wheels.

too funny - my kids are 9(girl),6(boy),4(boy)
probably have seen you on the soccer fields, basketball courts or tball fields at one point or another

my dtr likes to venture out with me - has done light trails and once got her out for a 15 mile fatbike ride - she wanted to kill me though

the other two are getting into it as well

i myself do road before work during the week (i am a 'night rider')
and on the weekend i try to do at least one day of mtb

all my fatbikes are pretty much vintage though (my buddy shakes his head from his super six🙂 )

edit: this week i have been jonesing to ride as i got a kidney stone on new years eve which kept me out of work and off the fatbike all week) - i feel better tonight and plan to ride tomorrow
btw - if you never had a kidney stone - dont get one - sooooo painful

if you live by the prison we are close by - i live off matchaponix

Hey I am also from Monroe, mostly ride the road with some occasional mtb'ing, just replaced a 16 year old Trek this winter with a 29'er Lefty - which is awesome. Road a couple times at 6 mile this fall and Hartshorne as well, also been riding at night with lights with the warmer winter we have been having. Probably pretty close to you guys as I am also right off lower matchaponix

You might have seen me on the soccor field - My son's practice/game this past fall was on Sunday around 10:30 or so. I am not sure of this year's schedule yet.

I try to fatbike when I can. Once the weather warms up though I have a conflict as my primary passion is being on the water / fishing so that takes away from mtb time.
