Help Me Pick a Bike (North Jersey)

Because a slightly slacker longer travel bike will have a much longer wheelbase. I don't care how well a big bike pedals riding slower tech is just alot more work and effort.
Comparing the Ripmo to the Ripley in the slower tech, there is no comparison, the Ripmo is superior. I test rode both bikes on the same trails before I bought the Ripmo. I actually don't know why the Ripley exists, I guess Ibis needed another sku to pimp to the "downcountry" believers?

A LOT of people down here ride Ripmos... and the few I've met that had Ripleys wished they had gotten the Ripmo instead.

If an Enduro bike and a Downcountry bike had a child, it’d be the Ripmo. That’s what you’re trying to say. 🤣
They are selling their aluminum child for around $800 off... Might be a good option

I’m looking at getting a new bike (currently don’t have one actually) for trail riding in North Jersey.

My budget is <$3000, so aluminum is really all I’m considering.

Did anyone miss the part about "<$ 3,000".... Ripmo FRAMES on sale are $2,775...full bikes don't start until $4, 425.... The 429 Pivot at Martys is listed for $ 7,699.....

This notion that longer travel bikes can't climb is a myth, most newer long travel bikes are just as efficient as shorter travel ones, you're just trading weight because they're burlier. We're talking 29lbs vs. 30-31 in most cases, not much. If you can have more travel for the times that you do decide to go crazy and push it, why not?

As for Ripley AF vs. Ripmo, get the Ripmo. The Ripley does not do anything better than the Ripmo except for weight less. The Ripmo climbs just as well, and descends better.
It’s funny because the Ripley vs. Ripmo debate seems split 50/50 from other people I’ve talked to and things I’ve seen. I’d prefer something that makes me pay attention more on descent.

It ends up I have a buddy with a Ripley. If I were to test ride I’m sure I wouldn’t hate it.

I hate the word "Downcountry" almost as much as "Acoustic Bike".

Perspective; a Ripmo doesn't even have a full 150mm of rear travel. Its a trail bike. Also, most of the gnarlier descents in North Jersey aren't exactly what I'd call easy, go ride Wildcat on any type of bike, it will have your full attention. Last of all, going faster will also make you pay more attention on a descent.

Size Large. $1800 is crazy price for basically new bike.

And if you read the above comments it's either the best bike to ride in NNJ or worst bike to ride in NNJ...
Also parts are much better on Jeremy's bike. $2700 new gets the deore or NX grade. Zeb fork and Topaz shock alone are 1k retail Kinda like getting a free frame for the price of parts.
Used bikes are so hard to offload now. Lady who bought my 429, couldn't drive off faster thinking she ripped me off...

For real. Your 429 was a great deal. I sent it to a few friends who it would have fit.

At this point I’m letting the Ripmo sit for sale at $1800. If it doesn’t sell, I’ll just keep it and race some Enduros next year, then bring it to mountain creek, chimney rock, and then Six Mile.

Yeah, I wish I could grab this...
