Hitch Rack Recommendation

I am looking to purchase a hitch rack. What I think I want is:

  • 2" hitch (Jeep Commander)
  • 4 bike rack
  • swing arm so I can access back of Jeep without removing everything
  • locking system

I understand that four-bike racks are tight. This should be okay for me as I have two younger ones. Most of the time I will only be transporting one or two bikes. I would like the ability to take the whole family on the few occasions when we all want to ride together.

I need a way to lock the bikes on the rack.

I have never attached anything to my hitch previously. I assume that whatever is purchased will slide into the hitch without extra parts needed.

I believe I have read for a need for a hitch lock too.

Any recommendations are appreciated. I would also like to hear if you any suggestions for anything I stated above or perhaps missed. I am driving halfway across the country this summer. I would like to take the bikes with us.

Mountain bikes and children's bikes are what we have.

Thank you for any help you can offer.

etrailer has the hitch you need and then you can buy the 1up usa rack and buy the extensions as needed.

I think you may be able to find a similar thread somewhere on here that will help out.

I mostly use bed mount now, but also have a yakima 4 bike rack that i got off backcountry a few years back. It is a 2" hitch. There are release pins for both the arms and the upright, which allows it to be folded down to open the tailgate/hatch. Yakima also offers locks that attach to the end of the hitch pin, and cable locks that install into one of the rack arms. The cable can be pushed back into the tube when not is use. It is a short cable, but is intended to lock the outermost bike on in order to keep the others from being able to be removed. You could probably wrap an additional cable if you wanted to.

There is no other rack that will compare to this 😉 Here is mine . I saw the Kuwait rack in person too and wasnt big on it, too bulky . Check out their website too for more info , specs, and warranty information as well. Spend a litte more and get what you pay for .
