Ice Ice Baby

hopefully the frozen pipe didn't expand and crack. they do sell hose bibs with bleeder screws to drain residual water left after you shut the feed valve.

bard we want to see pics of ice rink, not pics of your hose.

I think it is fine, when I shut off the valve inside, I leave the spigot open which should drain most of the residual water between the two. There is a small thingy which looks like it could be a "bleeder screw" below the valve inside the basement, I can try playing with that next time the water is flowing.

I have been spending too much time on:

Holy cow, some of the backyard rinks are amazing and mine looks so ghetto in comparison. It is a work in progress.

Bike Stuff - I haven't been on a bike in over a week.

Hockey stuff - Logan and I played for a couple hours on Saturday, the ice was perfect, nice and hard.

On Sunday, Logan had some friends come over and they played out there for a couple hours before they were tempted inside with hot chocolate and brownies.

That's pretty cool Brad. Hackettstown does a parking lot every year by Centenary and yet I never see any kids out there. Stupid videogames...

agreed with wobbly dong, super coo, you must be the coolest place on the planet lol

Nice job Bard, your backyard must be pretty popular with the kids this year.

My neighbor tried to make an ice rink in his front yard last year. He would flood it every night but the ground had too much pitch toward my house. As a result he had a failed rink and I had one slippery ass driveway. I'm glad he didn't try it again this year.

Thanks guys, you're making me blush. They had a bunch of fun and I suspect many more fun weekends to come. One of the other kids also has a backyard rink so we will probably have an away game next weekend.

My wife says I am obsessing a bit over the rink, probably true.

I remember my brother spontaneously ice skating on my parents' front lawn one winter, probably in the aftermath of one of those early '90s ice storms.

Good stuff, Brad.

I think if we lived in an area where ice was a given in the winter, you would see more of this but it is risky in these parts because of the variable winters.

Sussex County, Yo! Having an elevation of 1,200'+ definitely helps. I was on the ice a good 7-10 days before some folks I know in Morris County. I should be good through the end of February and plan to clean up this mess when I am off on break in March.
