IGVENTURE

Ahhh, commuter rate... I was on campus for that rate... We can only imagine what it will be 15 years from now when my kids are ready to go... Scary

I think I have another 5 years to go on my original $15,000 student loan from ~2001-02. 2.4% interest that is deductible and $100 a month payment....its like free money.

TGIF

I took off work today to clean out my mom's garage, my bro helped. This included a trip to Waste Management in Port Elizabeth to get rid of junk. No matter how beautiful the day, a trip to this shithole always leaves me feeling thankful I don't work here. For everyday month you work there your chance of getting cancer must go up 6%.

My cord to download pics from my camer is missing...I CANT FIND IT. I feel like the dude from Silver Linings looking for his wedding video. This is a great use of a Led Zep song and filming...and only in a movie can crazy people come off so high functioning and good looking. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qC4PE0FiLn8

I'm racing Jungle this weekend...are you? What u doin?

Jamie has a tennis match today, then we(mary, evan, J & my mom) are going for pizza, with beer. The beer is for me.

I have been somewhat female vocal obsessed lately and I don't know why. These skinny chicks are kinda spooky, I wonder if they would be fast on a bike?

Time to go look for my USB CORD, I CANT IT!

/rant. That is my .02, Didn't we have a similar discussion that went pretty long in one of Norm's blog threads? Good luck with the process Iggy, I'm a bit removed but if you have any questions feel free to shout. On top of charging you a fortune, they don't make it easy. Figuring out how to school with whole admissions process, forms and other bs is a pain in the ass all on its own.

yes, yes we did. and just recently i saw an article that was talking about college ROI. gettysburg was like 175 in the country with an ROI of like 9.2%. the top schools were like 15% or something which is good, i guess. i don't know.

like stated, unless it's a top-tier school, it REALLY DOES NOT MATTER. at all. once you're out of the top 10, stretch it to the top 50 if you'd like, it's absolutely about who you know and how well you convey, during the interview process, your work ethic and proff that you're only partially a dumb-shit.

good luck iggy, we're all counting on you.

I couldn't find my usb cord to download pics from my camera. Jeremy told me to get a card reader yesterday when I was talking to him at Jungle. Now I used to use a card reader with my old camera but I totally forgot about this option when I got my new camera. My brain is a bit cloudy at times. Its a good thing I talk to people, otherwise I might still be looking to buy film for my camera.

Racing in the Mud

So yeah, I raced at Jungle Habitat yesterday. I know this place would never get bad enough to cancel a race but when I rode up to the gate I thought it was closed. For a second I was kinda relieved at the thought of driving back home and watching movies from the comfort of my couch. As it turned out the gate was open on the left side, so I motored on through and dismissed the couch idea.

The hardest part about racing is waiting to start, It gets more miserable doing a warm-up in the rain. At least I had 26er to hang with prior to the start. We did the WildCat 100 last week and spent all day in the rain, so doing a sub two race in wet conditions was not as daunting.

At 10:40ish the death camp wistle went off and I raced. My legs didn't feel 100% so I just settled into a comfortable spot, 7ish? The mud through warthog took all flow from these trails and going too slow on the rocks caused the back tire to spin. I backed off the pace a bit and tried to keep it steady. Most of the guys in my field where chasing me until lap 3, when they seemed to fade. I passed a few guys in this final lap and was able to grab 4th. The one nice thing about this race was the fact that the fields were a little smaller, which meant the course didn't get too clogged up with riders. When someone got on my wheel from out of no-where I let them pass, as did the riders I came up on. The fact that we all kinda know each helps, its not a good idea to be a douchebag in these races...we see each too often for that.

The post race highlight had to be Mancuso explaining to a bunch of us, graphically, how to impregnate a women...while standing in mixed company. This unabashed demonstration was amazing. Is Mancuso a fertility clinic therapist?

Bearscat Prep

Get it done now folks, thats what I say. Make sure your chain is good, tires, der...I took my mtb to HG yesterday to have my chain checked for wear. It was on 3. I think that means it could break, if its on 4 it will snap.

After I got home I was tooling around the yard on the bike and was hearing some grinding coming from the crank. I think the teeth are worn and the new chain is grinding into rivits in crank when I put some torque on pedals. It wasn't doing it in small ring, I hardly use it because I'm so big an manly. This leads me to believe the teeth on the 36 are worn...shoulda checked this in parking lot of HG. Doh.

I love the Bearscat course...not like those guys who say they love it, race it and then swear they are never going to do it again. The big 25 mile loop is like going out on an adventure...twice.

There is some good competition this year in the 45 plus class. Last year I was sitting in 3rd, halfway through the 2nd lap when I snapped my DH. This year getting near the podium won't be as easy. My goal is to stay mechanical free and ride hard.

Also

I heard a Pink Floyd song on cbs 101.1 the other day, that was just too weird.

That was quite an explanation by steve 🙂

what the hell is going on with that bike? did you clean it after the jungle race?

The next your hanging out with Steve and you've got a few hours to kill ask him about automotive target marketing and buyer demographics. I forwarn you, fasten your seatbelt and try to keep your airway clear ...

yeah, i cleaned it after jungle. i also cleaned it after playing in the mud at Wildcat 100. i just need to stop riding my mtb in the mud.

I didn't know who steve was at first. then I was like oh yeah...Mancuso.

That was not an explanation by steve, that was a demonstration. I love when people act inappropriately in public. Right or wrong I find it funny. It seemed that the more people tried to ignore steve the more animated he became, so you couldnt help but listen and watch. classic.

hose, dry, re-lube.

My front chain ring(32) was worn. When I put new chain on I was getting grinding noised from ring. Put new ring on, no grinding noise.

2wks ago at WC 100 when I limped in on the rail trail after my derailleur stopped working I really wore out my chain ring. I didn't have tension on the chain but pedaled back 20 miles with excess chain dangling. This is a good way to wear out a ring...fast.

Riding Local

This has been a rest week for me, after Jungle I felt worn out. The cumulative effects of the Wildcat 100 seem to have taken over. I'll scale back the hours on the bike this week to be ready for Bearscat next week.
My arms have been feeling tired and weak lately after I ride my moutain bike. I'm not sure what that's all about, maybe I did some damage from the WC 100? In any case I don't like it, how do I make it better?

Last night I went out on the local trails for some fun. I came to an overlook and did my Utah pose, waiting for birds to fly into my hands. I guess that only works for Utah at the bird watch near his house.

And
People who post how hot it is or give daily updates on the 17 yr. cicada on FB need to be bitch slapped.

4 yrs. of riding rocks on my hardtale and my Stans Arch's are done. I guess they don't last forever.
