Hello everyone, just dug the ol' 93 trek950 outta the shed not too long ago and started getting the "bug" again... thought I'd pop in and check out the local scene as this wasnt around last time I got serious into riding...

And yea I know what your thinkin 93 trek 950!!! Is this guy serious?
well Yeti ASR7 frame Is on the way so a new build is approaching.. looking for some good rides & hopefully some insightful build advice...
:hmmm:
thanks for readin' check you guys around the forums and on the trails...

Oh and Shaggz, Thank you for responding too my e-mail & activating my account< I just ended up getting lost in work and finally got some time too put my arse' in the forums ...

Hiho,
hopefully the trails will have thawed by the time you build up the new bike.

Welcome to the fray... I once owned a '92 970 trek which was my first x/c racer, oh the good old days. I actually did my first DH at Mount Snow nationals with it, of course thats when Fullys were only pipe dreams...

Welcome back, does the 7 in ASR7 stand for 7 inches of travel? Where ya plan on ridin that beast?

yes sir 7" travel

where:hmmm:, where, 😡ANYWHERE!!!!!!

7" of travel is a bit much for most trails in NJ. I don't want to bust your bubble but at the same time I'd hate to see you spend a lot of $$ building up a bike that you sell a year from now.
You may be better off staying with your old Trek until you can demo some bikes and go on some group rides to see whats out there. Whatever you decide I hope it works out for you.🙂

I appreciate that pooriggy... It was demo'd last fall in the RACE config.... fell in love!! Just couldnt afford it

Im 5'8" 195 and with the suspension tuned tight it handled like a dream,.. sag was was never taken too bottom-out travel despite my full-bodied attempt at doing so. Unfortunately for me at my weight I can bottom the 5" travel on an rp23 rear,..

I opted for the Fox DHX Air rear shock which offered good pedal >DH capabilities

Yee olde school.

First a 'veloduffer'...now a '93 trek right from a shed... This is my kinda crowd ( at least for the first two weeks back until they get speedy again  ).

Welcome. ( Late Feb last year I trudged out to my snowbound shed to bring back to life '91 and '93 Treks that got me biking again until wisely getting new kit in the late fall )

My only advice based on my experience last year would be to try and get a dozen or two rides in, prior to ratcheting up the risk factor. I quickly learned that crashing at age 40+ does a lot more damage than it did in my 20's. The atomic end-o faceplants I did early last spring resulted in some nagging injuries that are fading very very slowly. So have fun but go easy in the snow until you get your MTB legs back.

Welcome aboard if you get up north the yeti will prove it's worth for sure...
BTW I have a 90's trek 900 antelope which still rolls quite well. "steel is real"
