Lance Armstrong interview

you sir, have crossed a line by suggesting Rambo First Blood Part 2 sucked. HOW DARE YOU.QUOTE]

If you look at the Rambo series in its totality, then 1 and 4 clearly stand out as the best, worthy book ends to an enduring saga. But wait.....rumor has it that there will be a Rambo 5. NOTHING IS OVER! YOU CAN'T JUST TURN IT OFF!

bruce, you kinda missed my point but not your fault, i should have clarified.

i've met lots of those pro guys too and they are, generally speaking, nice as pie. to you and i. normal people.

the people they are not nice to, again, most of the time and generally speaking, are the people they're competing against.

with that, i'm punching out. nothing there's nothing further that's going to rationally discussed here.

Wait - concerning children - to Norm's point.

we also tell them that there is a santa claus, and easter bunny, tooth fairy, etc.. they can all mysteriously get into the house and leave treats and do good....but there is no such things as monsters, and nothing bad can sneak in and they should feel safe in the house and not worry about that stuff. it is a disconnect, even if the kid doesn't realize it consciously.

was going somewhere with this, forgot - but it is a good point to bring up in therapy.

Don't forget the idiotic media reporters asking silly irrelevant questions over and over again. And when your not nice to the media, they portray you as a jerk, and the gullible public assumes you are in fact a jerk.

The last Rambo movie cannot be watched or enjoyed because Stallone used Steriods/HGH to bulk up for the role.

Aedubber - great post! Very cool of you to write that and gives a good perspective. I know this is taking it kind of extreme but how clean is clean? What if I take some advil after a ride to help recover? What about the use of caffiene (which I know I have to have each day)? And who knows what sort of chemicals are in some of the stuff I eat. Or how potent is the drug a doctor prescribes if I have a bad knee or back?

My nephew and his dad are close personal friends with a bunch of the NJ Devils players and they aren't asshats. My nephew has even spent the weekend many times at the goalie's (Brodeur) house. I got to know and party with some of the best mountain bikers in the early days of the sport and they were all great people. I don't remember any being assholes.

I have heard a few times that nhl players are really cool for the most part. But hockey is a sport where those guys will probably be playing for a long time and would skate if they were making money or not. I am in an old man league and skate with guys in their 50s and 60s a bunch of them ex-college players. It's a dedicated sport like mtn biking in many ways.

Which brings up a point - would most of these highly paid guys be playing that sport if there wasn't a paycheck?

If wanting sport (or government, or whatever) to be clean means I'm on a high horse, then all I have to say is "Giddyup".

The rest of your post supports my postion 100%. That is, pro sports is hopelessly corrupt. With that in mind, I want nothing to do with it. I would've thought most of my mountain biking brethren would agree with my viewpoint. Apparently I'm in the minority. Gotta say, I'm disappointed.

I would say that most of the people on the board agree with your viewpoint and that many would be outside on a nice (or not so nice) day riding instead of watching a pro sport (be it football or hell in my instance even the tdf).

What is funny is while you and Monkey are argueing - you both seem to be saying the same thing. It is like he is saying something is white (pro sports are corrupt and here is why) and you are saying, yes its white but it should be black (not corrupt and people should go ride instead of watching the "entertainment").

Good thing Jim Parsons found the role he did, I heard he was pretty upset for losing out to Stallone on HGH when Parson tried for out Rambo part doing it clean.

No problem Don , im not ashamed of anything and i hold no regrets in my life.
Im always an honest dude and look at 2 sides of the story. I mean thats my point exactly , nobody really knows the long term effects or outcome on certain things . Usually anything that will spike your test levels or your blood cell count would be looked at as " banned substance or enhancer " . A lot of the supplements you buy from your local vitamin shop are not FDA approved . The stuff wont kill ya but anything that seems to work gets banned or not approved but yet it could be super mild and not cause any steroid effects. 🙂

Now to make just a general statement :

A lot of people say they wouldnt do this or that , they wouldnt lie or whatever the case is but the problem is NOBODY was in his shoes but him and the other dopers with him . When your involved in a sport that is your career = pays for your bills , feed your family, etc , you will do what it takes to win = get paid . Money is evil , so is greed . Imagine if jealous people , or other dopers are mad now cuz your doing the dope and NOW beating them in their own game ? Sure they will want to take you out or rat you out or go against you in court. Im sure the people that testified got something on the side too . As a man , an alpha , someones career being on the line , and name being destroyed cuz of people trying to tarnish you cuz you are now beating them in their own game ,would you threaten them ? Im not agreeing with what was done was right , but i dont know the guy personally and i dont judge nobody cuz of what the " media " makes or says about people . To be honest what he has done has not effected me personally in anyway at all . I like a lof of sports and i used to play a lot of sports when i was younger . Hearing someone was doping is nothing new to me . Also , there are some emotional and mental side effects to steroids .

When im at the gym , i know whos juiced up and who isnt since i have done it. No way would anyone fess up or tell me straight out if i asked them in the gym . Anyways , i have been clean since last year and plan to keep it that way . All in all , i am healthy , i wake up everyday , i have a job to go to everyday, i have my family and friends , and i have a bike to ride cuz in the end thats what effect me and my life not " media " and entertainment . Everyone has a path to pick , you have chances to do better , but it will all run out eventually .

Don, that kind of talk threatens to destroy my OTHER hobby, which happens to be arguing with people on the Internets.

The funny thing about Rambo 1 is that Stallone looked to be the smallest he ever was. He was way more jacked in the Rocky movies he did before Rambo 1. He is also quoted as saying that HGH is the greatest drug ever, and that someday everyone will do it. He may be partially right, as it is FDA approved for hormone replacement.

Only one comment on the opinions of other peoples opinions that you don't even know. I would never call someone an asshole that I haven't actually had the pleasure of experiencing have my ass blasted by. Nor for that matter going by something I read that someone I don't even know wrote.

I do actaully know someone who has met and spent time with Lance. I know the person very well - he shares my last name in fact. In the photo he happened to be participating in the Ride for the Roses to raise awareness for cancer (I have that jersey). I am ambivalent towards his behavior regarding the situation and think it could have ended in a much better way for everyone in the sport if handled differently. Regardless, his attitude and outreach to most people was not that of an asshole.

My uncle and I do have a slight resemblance.

That is good!

haha, maybe start playing hockey - you can talk shit in person in the locker room and then gives hits on the ice - and then talk shit about everyone at the bar afterwards (although if you are truely clean you won't be consuming alcohol).

Or get in on one of our Hartshorne TM's - they are good for some nice smack talking about all the users that don't pony up and help dig at their local trails 😀

I may do that! But I'm afraid they might make me ruin (I mean fix) my favorite gnarly trail sections.

I hate to bring this up...but is their the chance LA never had cancer? I saw LA when he looked like a middle linebacker before he was diagnosed with it..in the beginning of his career. What are the chances they/he knew his body was going to change drasticly and the big "C" was all a ploy? Just a thought?
