Greetings all; today start my re-introduction to the world of trail riding. While going to school in upstate ny I got introduced to single track riding and bought a Gary Fischer Aquilla. Now that a decade has gone by; and I am finally getting back in to some semblance of shape I have picked up a new ride!

After going through a number of options with Jay at Halters I ended up with a Cannondale SS 29er. In the process of upgrading some of the kit; but already went clipless and with a CF seat post and bars. And a new fork is right a must have even though everyone is saying to just ride rigid for a while.

I have been trailing running at 6 mile for some time; and tonight was the initial ride; other than a malfunction on the seat post and having no tools; it was a great first outing. Not exactly a trail that is know for elevation changes but I honestly felt that the SS was just perfect and maybe just a tad easy; but all in due time!

I am gonna be a 6 mile regular for the near future so I look forward to meeting some of you out there. And yes I crashed a few times today; so at least i have that behind me!

How does the SS climb? Or does SS limit to where you ride? Just wondering.
6 mile is great but mix in some chimney rock now and than. Its close and fun as hell.

.

First off welcome to the site and did you get that red C-dale me and Pearl were telling Lou to bye? As for riding a rigid SS...you can ride it anywhere in the state and beyond (within reason) if you find it too easy put a 19t or 18t on the back. 19t is perfect anywhere IMO

Thanks all for the welcome!

I had a blast on my first ride yesterday and I appriecate all of the welcome notes! I did bring the Red Cdale home took Jay's suggestion on upgrading some bits of kit and ordered a new fork today. Getting ready to head out for ride number #2 here in a few moments! Thanks again to everyone! See you out there!

welcome

i can't believe that you bought an SS 29er from Jay at halters. this is insane. 😀

while i'm not as hardcore as dustin, i've ridden an SS in pretty much every park in the state. guys like ben have ridden an SS in every park in the state. then again, some people ride a FS 26er in these very same parks. so it depends, really.

dustin is hard core and would ride a giraffe bare-backed...so take his advice with a grain of salt. 🙂

I used the word bye instead of buy. jake is right I eat nails and crap scrap metal so maybe a 20t is good for now, I rode one for a year and out grew it I guess.

NI, I'm guessing you'll be at the 6mile ride saturdee?

Thanks everyone...

Still loving the single speed; and 6 mile still rocks. I am getting faster in the twisties and my full loop time (moving time) is around 1:45. I would still like to make the full loop without crashing; but oh well. I made it all the way back almost to RT 27 without eating it until my pedal hit a root and popped me out on a wild ride. Maybe it is time to tighten the clip-less pedals a bit.

I have been riding 6 mile just about every AM from RT27 to s. middlebush. If you see a gray tundra that would be me. Did my first loop tonight that was missed timed and ended in the dark. The twisties alone at night light or not is not a fun place. I was seriously starting to think; this is taking way to long and I must be riding in circles.....and then came the pipeline woohoo; then I ate it!

Any way I will not be a part of the wagon train riding 6 mile this weekend; as my little sister is getting married! Jdog and crew have done an amazing job of getting the place ready for the madness. Hats off to them for sure!!!

welcome to the board... you should definitely come out to the 6M ride Saturday morning... it's probably going to be the most people 6M has ever had at once (if I had to venture a guess)... oh and don't listen to anything Chainsaw says about SS's... you can't trust him... he isn't human... I've seen him murder people in the face with their own faces through the the 'G|\|@R' (we don't use that word anymore 😉) of Allamuchy and up the climbs of Round Valley riding one legged on a bigwheel while poppin' bottles... I think he's doping... 😀

^^^^^dont listen to this guy, he's in the ER more than he is on his bike🙄😀

Lets see if we can beat the previous group ride #. I don't feel like looking for the photo, but its a nice one.

What good about the ride is there will be different groups going out.
The Murder in the face group. Not so bad murder in the face group.
And hey this is 6 mile for the none murder in the face group.

So there will be group ride for all types of skill levels there...
