Greetings. I'm a guy who rode bmx many years ago and am coming out of "retirement" to do some mountain biking. I live in Bergen county and would like to connect with some folks on here. Anyone up for a Wednesday after work ride somewhere in northern NJ? Hopefully I can tag along with someone who knows some of the better trails so that I can learn my way around. thanks much

thanks. I can't say how technical I'll be getting, really just looking to learn and ride all of the local terrain and go from there. I figure if my body lasts the season (age 41) then I've already accomplished something.

I am riding a Surly Karate Monkey.
 
Karate Monkey, cred fo' sure! Geared or SS?

We've ridden Lewis Morris every Wednesday for about a month now if that interests you. Or we could do Mahlon or perhaps even RW/Ramapo....

thanks for the warm welcomes. My bike is geared.

I don't think I can get down to Lewis or Mahlon at a reasonable time tomorrow, although I work in Roseland on Tuesdays and Thursdays so perhaps in the future I can ride there on those days.

I am up for trying RW or Ramapo tomorrow if you don't mind being patient. My plan is to try Jungle tomorrow on my own if I don't link up with anyone in the next 24 hours. Just gonna take it slow and steady.

Actually looks like we will be hitting Mahlon tomorrow. I'm not entirely confident I can lead around RW/Ramapo but willing to give it a shot one day. Maybe post up in the rides section and see if anyone is game?

Lemme talk to Jason and see if he's up to try more north-er. Just worried about daylight, if it was later in the summer I wouldn't care.
 
sounds fair. assuming I survive Jungle tomorrow I'll stay in touch and will figure out a way to get to Mahlon on a Wednesday. Rather than post in the ride section, I'll just explore own my own so as not to hold anyone up.

You ARE old...Geez 41? GEEZER !!!😛

I live in North Jersey and Deer Park, Stephens,& Allamuchy are in my backyard. If you ever have time off during the week, I'm always looking for someone to keep me company. Unfortunately, I go in the mornings..too busy later. Call in sick !
 
thanks. Jungle went well yesterday. More rocks, slower than I expected, and not easy on the rigid bike, but it got better after I reduced the tire pressure a bit. It was easy to find JH and I stuck to the trails close to the parking lot, didn't want to lose my way. I may venture up to Stewart Airport tomorrow morning...
 
You will find Stewart much more enjoyable with the fully rigid bike. Great place...don't get too lost...trails all over the place.
