Losing weight

This is something alot of people think, but i think if you try to life heavy and stick a routine like 5X5's or descending pyramids you can accomplish this in about 3 months with lifting and diet. Plus, since your lifting hard you will be putting on lean muscle your body wont be adding fat.

dropping lbs

Definitely keep us up to date with how you're progressing on here, too. i think the best advice was from the first page on "telling your wife you have to bike more to lose weight" hahahaha. thats great. someone mentioned its all about discipline and i would have to agree. yesterday, i was in my student cafeteria and was going to go for a slice of pizza and really wanted it, but i held off because i know the effects it would have on my body and appearance. those rewards like taste are temporary, while good health is a life long thing. best of luck. cheers.

well I'm not fat just chubby. I use to be a gym rat till I blew out my shoulder. I can't go to the gym cause I have a mentality to lift and when I do I bulk up fast and I'm looking to do that again I use to be 245 solid muscle. No more don't want to do that again. I'm just looking to lose 20 lbs and get down to 200 lbs and I'll be happy.

I just re-read the thread mostly because Im also also trying to drop a few more lbs. One thing I would like to share is that I also 'had' the mentality to lift real hard when in the gym. I've come to the realization that its not more muscle Im I want but less body fat. This spring when I started training I did everything I've always done, squat, DL, BP, cleaning press/jerks, and I gained 10lbs. I was so pissed off with myself.

Then one day I peeped into the room where the cardio class was in session. It was 5 minutes after they started and half the class was on the floor, it looked like they were going to die. I went the next week and also lasted about 5 minutes. That was the point where I completly abandoned my old train of thought and went all cardio. I have since been to dozens of these classes and use the insanity disks. Im down 17lbs and lost 5% body fat. Those gains/losses are based on 6 fist size meals and a food journal.

Unfortunatlly, we have to also check out thinking when aiming to meet goals, once I tried something different I got the results I was after. Good luck. And also check out the sugar free jello cups, I almost live off them when Im training real hard.

thats some solid advise bro thank you

I would recommend that you try to phase out the Gatorade. Use a Whey protein mix after exercise and drink powder mix (Cytomax, etc) before/during. The goal is to limit the amount of sugars and fructose/corn syrup that you are taking in.

Depending on how much you add it can be just as "thick" as gatorade, but without the "sticky" sugary taste. I find that it tastes much better during a longer workout. There are many different brands on the market at various health food stores, REI, etc. Try a small batch - or buy a $6 sleeve of the tablet form - and see if you like it.

Good deal we'll I will give it a try

I gotta commit this thread to memory. I lost about 25 lbs just by riding (230 down to 205) and have kept it off for 3+ years now.

but am stuck at 205 even though I keep ramping up my miles each year. I've ramped up my bike mileage BIG TIME this year.

result?: no weight loss. still 205.

clearly I have reached a weight plateau that riding alone is not going to break.

Losing weight is all about numbers. What you expend must be greater than what you take in. The only 2 options are either eating less or riding more. If you do either of those and don't see any results, it's because you're not being honest about one of those things...

well I am riding more that is for sure. more often and significantly longer rides. so the obvious answer for me is my in-take. have to be smarter on that end and see what happens.

Another thing to consider is how you are riding. Mix up some of your long rides with shorter, high intensity rides. Mileage alone is not always going to help you lose weight because your body adapts to your effort pretty quickly. If you mix it up your body won't adapt as quickly and it will work harder and burn more. Ideally, mixing up the whole workout (leave the bike home and go for a run, hit the gym, or even play another sport) is a great idea, but that only works if you can enjoy those other things (if you do't, you won't stay with it.) Either way, keep your body guessing and be good about your diet more often than not and you'll see the weight come down.

Paleo diet?

Have you looked at the Paleo diet? We do this in our home b/c our son has a corn allergy (which means no corn syrup or corn starch...basically in all processed foods). OR as crazy as it sounds, I know several men who have had luck on Weight Watchers b/c it's all about portion control. I take a Whey Protein shake daily. Just say away from the weight loss pills. They don't do anything but screw up your metabolism.

Well I've done pretty with portion control and cutting back on my calorie intake and I have lost 20 lbs so now I'm down to 205 lbs I'm only looking to lose 10 more lbs and I'll be good to go.🙂

The hell with all of these diets. Until you get into the nitty gritty of weight loss to power loss ratio, ride lots. Like more then you are now, then ride twice as much as that. Tne lbs will fly off.
