Maxxis Forekaster Gen2 29'er

I only have time on OG Forekaster in 2.35 and 2.6. No complaints. Willing to try the new version, but published weight is a bit heavy for an XC tire. I also stocked up with some OG version in both sizes.

Gen 1's are my go-to tire around my way but the remake should have gotten a different name because it doesn't seem to fill the same void (long-ish sparse knobs for loose conditions). New tire looks good in its own right (more knobs, more aggressive traction profile) and seems like a mini-assegai of sorts. Seems like a great front trail (and rear) tire option. Might try one on my trail bike with a V1 rear but don't think i'd put one on my xc bike.

I would try this on the rear. The main issue I have with the reckon is the transition knobs wore fast as hell make the tire "slip" between soft and hard corning. This new Forekaster tread seems like it would be better in that respect.

New version looks like Maxxis cross pollinated the Rekon and Dissector

This is what gets me about that article:

Schwalbe Wicked Will Super Ground: 892 grams, $94.99 USD
Specialized Ground Control Grid T7: 880 grams, $60 USD
Maxxis Forekaster EXO MaxxTerra: 915 grams, $93 USD

1/3 less for Specialized tires.

Got my hands on one for $62 for my Rocky Mountain Element. It's pretty killer as a front. Rode a very wet and leafy Deer Park this morning and it held it's own. I was running the Ardent as a front this year and never loved it... Never trusted it. Excited for this one.

Ordering one for my front and maybe the Aggressor for the back. Going to keep the Rekons on till spring . Will have a good before/after evaluation to talk about.

I run the Aggressor as my rear trail tire on my Ripmo, great tire. May be a bit of overkill for this front tire tbh. My current combos

Rear/Front

Dissector DD/DHR 2 DH (Downhill)
Aggressor EXO+/DHR 2 EXO+ (Trail on the Ripmo)
Rekon EXO/Forekaster EXO ("Downcountry")
Rekon Race Exo/Ardent Exo (XC Racing I suppose if I do that next year)

They're not even comparable honestly...completely different tires at this point. Probably should've changed the name. This is the light-er trail tire for people who love the DHR2.
Might have to give them a try. My T429 came with Dissectors 2.4 F/R and switched the rear to a Rekon 2.4. Both are showing side knob wear and tear. I can save the OG design for the SS since it gets used for XC.

Anymore comments on the new Forekaster?

It's a winner for sure. I have about 150 miles on it and have zero bad things to say so far. I did a back to back comparison to the Dissector (as a front), I much prefer the Forekaster for the predictable behavior in corners. My initial impression that it was a mini-DHR2 was bang on...very similar tread pattern that rolls a bit faster.

Good to hear that. I have the OEM Dissectors that came on my T429, not currently on the bike (Rekon 2.6/2.4), and recall them being mostly predictable in corners with some moments of "what just happened there?"

Currently running OG Forekasters on my rigid SS, 2.6/2.35 combo, and they are awesome.
