MCP Trail Maintenance

Despite the showers we got it done. Pardon the phone images. Mick & I did get a bit soaked!
The idea was to open the ground around the drain so as to retain water while the drain does it's thing (slowly).
The rod sticking up in the middle of the hole is the opening to the drain. ( See image) The trail bed is about 40 feet to the left.
The soil we removed was used to fill the runoff erosion channels leading to and across the trail bed.

A portion of the eroded section of trail bed was filled as well. We added a nick to pull water away from the filled section.
YES... it may be a bit squishy for a while until it packs and dries out.
There is plenty of soil available and we will be making further adjustments to the trail bed in the coming weeks.

No more "Hog Bog"!

We will be trimming - clearing trails adjacent to the East Picnic area over to the Rowing Center with the brush hog.
Come on out and earn some karma points for the upcoming summer!
Plus you won't get scratched up by the dreaded Mercer thorns on your next ride.

We will assemble at the Marina parking lot @9:00AM near the volleyball courts.
Tools and gloves will be provided.

We will have JORBA and Mercer County release forms on hand.

Last night Mick, Al and I ran the brush hog on Red trails adjacent to East Picnic. Red has been cleared up to the tennis center.
We also did the section of the Red loop along the creek. The thorns have really had a growth spurt this spring.
We will need to revisit some sections at at later date to further clear sight lines for safety. Pics to follow.

Mick, Rudy Al and I started about 5:30. It was a sweat fest for sure but we got it done. I cleared the tree that was down over by the ponds near the power line entrance and a bunch of other trees and limbs in the "suspect it's gonna fall over soon" class. Kudos to Al for clearing the tree in the pics above by hand saw. The E-saw ran out of battery power just as I got there! The section between South Post Road and the Conover road bridge still needs attention.

What a Beautiful Morning! Light breeze and no humidity. Yee Ha!

West Picnic area Rudy, Al, Mick & I

Rudy & Al ran the brush hog and trimmed Red trail from West picnic to the volley ball courts. They also did the cross trails under the power lines and entry point trails for Red and Orange. I removed three trees in the same area across from the power lines near the PawPaw patch.

Mick & I then went to Van Nest and removed six trees that were down. Three on Orange and three on yellow.
We trimmed as we went.
