Mercer County Park Conditions

Second time out on the new "FatBoy" since the snow.
Got out there about 2 PM I parked at the rowing center and took Blue to the east picnic area. Saw tire tracks on top of hikers - snowshoe tracks to the East picnic area. Made first tracks on the Red loop next to East Picnic area (next to creek) back across the twin bridges went left - Blue back along the lake. There were some tracks but they stopped, So I continued on blue next to the lake .. back to the rowing center. Man talk about heart rate! Pushing unbroken snow in low gear does that!! Pic is on blue down near the lake. Tire pressure was perfect for the conditions. Ground controls 4.6 -about 4 in back & front.
If your gonna go out tomorrow wait until afternoon, air down and don't be in a hurry!

MCP rideable tomorrow afternoon?
I haven't been out to MCP but there will be a freeze thaw cycle for the next couple of days so it will likely be greasy after the thaw. There is a possibility it will be decent late afternoon but it's hit or miss. If you do go out, tread lightly and let us know how it is. 🙂

Was there today around 2 PM. Started at the marina and went east on Red to the east picnic area. Usual soft spots here and there. Cleared a downed tree past the tennis center. Made the first left onto red after the bridge. Removed a bad widow maker near the last wood cross bridge. Continued on red, then left on blue towards the rowing center. Rode Son of Blue to power lines. All clear and good conditions. Rode Blue north of the power lines from south Post road entry point. VERY WET and Soft!!! 😱 Walked the 1st 100 yds. Remainder of blue was fine cleared 2 more downed trees.

If you go out this weekend PLEASE respect the trails. If a section is to wet, soft or muddy dismount and walk your bike
Also Be Aware that there are lots of branches and larger tree limbs on the trails from the last storm.
Take a minute and clear the trail for the next rider!😉

I should also mention, the usual freeze/thaw cycle rules apply for this time of year. If the temps dipped below freezing the night before... In the morning, hit it while it's frozen. Otherwise, wait until afternoon when it's firmed up. If you ride in that "in between" time during the thaw, it will be greasy and soft and susceptible to tread damage/rutting.

so basically you can go to the boat house but not north of there?
Unknown, Mike and I didnt go all the way to the boathouse today, but I am sure it was fine out to there. The loop back around from the boathouse is a big question mark sd it is the worst drainage area. Everything on the marina side was mint, other than the gumballs everywhere.

As above, everything is great south and west of the east picnic lot, except for peeper land along the lake by the tennis courts. One cautionary note, after taking a shower this morning I noticed my shins were stinging - it looks like cats used them for scratching posts - lots of thorns hanging into the trails.
