Mercer County Park Conditions

Was there last couple days just rode the walking path that where plowed somewhat. The trails looked pretty iced covered snow and slippery on top. The wing was the real deal when it blew off from the lake it sucked big time.

So, the trails are not really rideable except where we snowshoed and packed it down today near the West picnic area. The paved trails have been plowed but are still fairly sketchy. I'm going to bring my fat bike tomorrow and ride a little and hopefully do some more snowshoeing.

Oh also, wherever hikers walked the trails is pothole city with shards of icy snow which is a really difficult to tamp down. 😐

Until conditions get well above freezing during the day... for multiple days it will continue to be a crunch fest- "slip'n slide".
Hopefully it will settle and pack down. But with the forecast for continued below freezing temps it may be quite while.
That breakable crust is nasty even on a Fat Bike. I have done it before!

It's so crusty right now. And I had some help out there.

Rode the trails Al & crew packed down over the weekend. Great job making the track fairly smooth. Very ridable. Hopefully, my riding them helped pack them some more.

I did some limited stomping while I was there to try and expand the ridable trails a little (every little bit helps). The parts I packed already had some rough packing so I was trying to smooth it out some:
  • Stomped the entrance to Red Trail from West Parking Access Rd to Passing By Trail to make it more ridable.
  • Stomped Red from Oxcart to Tar Heels Trails to make more ridable.
  • Stomped a little more of Orange west bound.
Here's the little section of Orange I stomped.

There's some rideable trails at Mercer. Been working on the West side. Some of the Red trail, some Orange trail, and Pax Twist have been packed down. It's chunky/bumpy in some places from hikers, etc. Fat tires recommended, studs not required but might be helpful.

Rode this morning:

Came in from Hughes and someone with a fat bike and skinny tires rutted up some of the stuff closest to hughes, still ridable, but not as good as it was. Luckily they didn't make it very far before turning around.

Paxson twist has some good, some ok and some bumpy from deer traffic. Xmas tree trail is horribly bumpy but rideable.

The west picnic area is good, alittle slower than wednesday but still mostly smooth. Either end has spots where skinny tires tried to ride when soft but they didn't make it far.

I rode more stuff today than the last few rides and it is rideable just really bumpy
