Mercer County Park Conditions

Conditions as of 4/1/2014

Mostly fine; there are areas under water but there are also plenty of dry trails. Easily pieced together about 12 miles of trails that were in great shape. A surprise after all the rain.

trails are in great shape ! Got 13 miles in all dry. Did not do back part of blue past row house though. Noticed a few new boardwalks on red. Nice work .

Rode this morning. Tried to park at the boat house but couldn't get to it because the parking lot was flooded. The lake is extremely high. Went over to the Marina and was able to ride everything on the marina side except the low area near the damn. The trails i did ride were dry.

the far side of the boat house

Has anyone been on the other side of the boat house?
I'm curious to know what condition the trail on that part of the park is in.
I know it usually doesn't drain as well other areas.

It's a mess. It hasn't really dried up yet this spring. Maybe in another few weeks.

Thanks for getting back to me. In fact, thanks for all that you guys do to maintain the trails at Mercer

Your welcome, It's our pleasure. We're always looking for volunteers for our trail team. Please consider coming out sometime to check out what it's all about. We have a ton of fun. It feels great to give back as well. 😉
Our next session is Sat May 17th @ 9am.
I am also planning on a pre-TM ride at 7 am weather permitting. 🙂
You can always see work days in advance on the JORBA calendar as well, here

If trail maintenance isn't your thing, please consider Joining JORBA or donating as membership fees and donations help us buy tooling, supplies and advocate for mountain biking throughout NJ.

More info for the Trail maintenance is here

Hope to see ya there.

Mike,
Thanks for the invite. But, currently my wife and I are both working full time and attending school full time. Our lives are a constant scheduling nightmare. We rarely get to spend time with each other and we get to ride even less. And most of our income is tied up in tuition/books/fuel to travel to and from school and work. So when we do have a little spare time we try to ride. More times than not that means a trip to Mercer. At this point it's pretty much the only outlet we have. This should all be over some time in late July and at that point there will be much less demands on my time and on my finances. When things calm down I will definitely pitch in in one way or another. Mercer is one of my favorite places and it has kept me from the brink more than once. I see this as a debt and it is a moral imperative that I bring it into balance.

Cyclesick....Mercer has been that place for me thru 23 years of marriage and 3 kids, so you are in the right place!.... and you can pick up your karma points at any of the trail days - rode there for years before I even knew there was a jorba trail crew working there and I still don't go to maint as often as I want to for all the same reasons you had, but I go when I can....all my cycling partners these days came from trail maint at Mercer too.

That being said, I am going to try and join in on the 17th....

Oh and since this is the conditions thread, the main trails at MCP are rideable until the rain hits later today....I was out last night and there is plenty of dry trail there at this point....guessing u got up until about 2pm today before it rains....

@ Rusty,
Thanks for the reply. I definitely feel better about my lack of give back. On the subject of conditions, what do you think the trails will be like tomorrow. Sunday is usually our only free day and even then we're mostly stuck trying to get caught up on laundry/ grocery shopping or some other aspect of daily life that's really only designed to prevent you from doing what you really want to. We'd really like to hit the trails tomorrow but if they're likely to be too wet we can ride our road bikes instead. I have too much respect for the work and for the trail to knowingly do anything that would cause damage.

conditions at mercer

Does anyone have any idea of the conditions at Mercer?
I'd like to ride the trails tomorrow but, I don't want to do any damage.

Thanks
Cyclesick

Probably best if someone who actually went to TM this morning replied, but judging from the recovery of my back yard (which is like a mirror of the middle of the road mcp trail, wetness wise), I'd say save it for late in the day tomorrow. I think that is my plan, unless I end up at Clayton.
