Well, since the government openly admitted that Area 51 exists, I'll go with aliens.

Although I really lime Frank's answer.

After thinking about it a bit more. The temporal coincidence makes it unlikely to produce aliens within 100LYs.

Ill go with a new dominate species here on earth. Like Bourne types. But vampires will work. ESP teenage Fs

Sharknado but sharks with freakin laserbeams on there head

You know.... technically the second coming of jesus is supposed to be the apocalypse and being that he rose from the dead hes a zombie so being the good christian that I am(giggle) I want to change my answer from aliens to zombies

The concept of intelligent alien life first seeking to spread across the cosmos and, having done that, finding its way to a tiny, remote outcropping of the universe as randomly situated as earth defies probability. Not to say there isn't intelligent life out there, but it would take a pretty wild coincidence for them to locate and travel to this planet. We can assume that they would encounteer our radio signals that are sent out, but there is no way to know if such beings would even utilize radio signals. When you think about it, there is almost certainly life outside of our sphere of observation, and most of it is bacteria or other types of microorganisms. But having a situation where more complex intellgent life devleops and then focuses their efforts on the development of technology necessary to scan for other life and travel to find it over huge, almost unthinkable distances -- that's probably not all that likely. So chances are, we're not going to be getting too many visitors -- at least, that is, before the time comes when a super virus creates zombies that come to eat our brains (and move faster than they are depicted on tv.)

So between zombies and aliens, probability dictates that it's going to be zombies.

But all of that is moot anyway. What's going to kill us all first are the sharknados. I mean, they're f*cking sharks flying through the air in random patterns caused by destructive weather systems. How do you even begin to fight a foe like that?

Given that there are billions of galaxies (probably more), with billions of stars in each one, the statistical probability of alien life is pretty good. For them to traverse great distances requires technology that allows travel faster than the speed of life, such as bending space to bring 2 distant points closer together, artificial worm holes, warp bubbles, etc. There are sources of energy in the universe great enough to make these possible, and just because they are beyond our technological and intellectual capacity, does not mean someone or something else out there has not developed it. Then there is this notion that life only exists in the physical universe that our senses allow us to perceive, but that is a whole other discussion. If a race were advanced enough to harness these energy sources and technologies, what makes you think that they would be interested in us? We are not the center of the universe. They may be as interested in us as we are in an ant colony, and do you go around initiating first contact with every ant colony you come across?

Zombies, and this will be my theme song as I bust caps into their coolers:

My emphasis ...

Basically, you are saying exactly the same thing I am. There are a whole lot of things to think about here -- and any number of avenues to head down here (the variety of possibilities for overcoming time-space issues alone could fill a book) -- but all I'll do here is ask one question: why does our notion of "advanced" necessarily have to imply advanced intelligence? For example, couldn't you argue that one of the most advanced creature on earth is the tardigrade, which can survive in temps from almost absolute zero to higher than boiling? They are better suited to any number of environments than any other creature. My point is that we have to allow for different definitions of "advanced", some of which may have nothing to do with being able to even recognize that other lifeforms may exist. So we have to entertain the possibilty that other "advanced" creatures out there wouldn't necessarily be "advanced" in a way that would yield advanced "intelligence" as we define it. Again, in an infinite universe of possibilities, this doesn't negate the possibility of intelligent life, but it's definitely something to be considered.

So ... still going with zombies ...

I originally voted aliens but 1speed is talking some bad ass science up in here. I'm thinking zombies.

absolutely! it is more likely that some disease causes brain death and reanimation with a single thought to be a virus....

a non-recognizable life has no "legs" because it is not going to cause an apocalypse unless we are deathly allergic or they can "blood bend" - and again even the billions-of-billions argument ignores the temporal coincidence.......humanity is a dot on the earth's timeline, we'll be ejected soon.

So my mind is all over the place because of a family loss - pardon the gibberish, this is part of me dealing with it:

So after thinking about this a bit more....

It is going to be Cyborgs against Automatons -

Cyborgs, like the terminator, will resist unconditional hive existence. And like Captain Kirk vs Spock will have creativity that can not be
duplicated by a total machine brain - although if i were a total machine brain, i would enslave a real brain and tap it for creativity....vicious circle there....

This is topical right now, as scientists are at odds with the military complex on arming automatons....

kinda like putting a small electric motor on a bike.....kindof 🙂

You silly bastadges, neither. The melting of all ice on our planet will be our ultimate demise. On a more serious note..............Lets Go Mets ~~~~~~~~~~

the devastating effects of global warming are 100 years away. They are building those robots now. They just need to make them float, like ducks, or small pebbles.

Trying not to jinx the Mets.....

Ahhhh nuts on that. When the apocalypse comes it be because of the lawyers.... Oh wait, someone already said blood sucking vampires.... Never mind.😵
