Hey guys,

Just figured I'd check things out here, hopefully get some tips on good rides in NJ. I'm brand new - 28 from Central NJ - just bought a Redline Monocog 29er (singlespeed). Haven't taken it on a trail yet (a bit nervous since I've never done any real mountain biking, just some dirt trails).

Anyone have suggestions for good light easy trails where I can make an a$$ of myself without interrupting others rides near central NJ?

Thanks all!

welcome aboard,
i must say your rather progressive hopping on a ss 29er as a new mtber...most nubes by a 26 full suspension than 1 yr later their looking for a 29er. 2yrs after that there looking to try ss.
some good ss can be found at 6 mile and allaire, not too technical and not too hilly...they gots flow.
check out trail directory.

Welcome! Look at going to the Allaire rides on Tuesday evenings, there be alot of people who will be able to help you out.

Instant success! All the right toolz for central J make sure you got your helmet on... "Welcome"

Very nice, welcome from one of those noobies on a full suspension 26er. Just for the record I kind of enjoy not feeling like I left rykers island after a ride. But u r right pooriggy, I have given much consideration to a 29er, still to fresh for ss as I think at this time it would just destroy my legs, but all in good time....
U r a very brave man for going ss MachX, good luck with the bike

Wow, I didn't realize this forum was that quick! Thanks for all the warm welcomes.

I rent in South River, NJ... Not much riding here! lol

Yeah, I took the plunge or sipped the KoolAid, whichever you like 🙂 I'm totally new to MBing but I'm the type of person that obsesses over things and researches and from what I read it's a good combo, so I scoured the internet figuring out exactly what I wanted, and the Monocog seemed like a nice way to get into a decent bike for cheap. So far I love it, I'm into fitness so my muscles aren't in for as big of a shock as they would be otherwise. We'll see how I do when I hit a real trail though, I expect a learning curve. 🙂 And yes I drank more KoolAid and got a Giro helmet. I'm sure there are better solutions but summer is upon us and my researching was getting tired!

Allaire sounds sweet... definitely going to plan on it for this Tuesday. Oh also - how is Cheesequake State Park in Matawan? Difficult? I walked a MB trail there once way early in the season when it was still muddy and one trail seemed pretty technical (I'm not sure if I'm using that word properly.) Also - Question about the parks - I'm guessing you guys get season passes right? I know the season hasn't started yet... just wondering.

Thanks again guys!

you do have to pay at round valley, wawayanda and ringwood after memorial day but you can park outside the park or get a yearly pass.
cheesequake is not that popular with most mtbers, but it does serve a purpose if you live close by.
