Hi Everyone!

I'm a roadie looking to get into MTB. I currently race a full season on the road, but am looking to MTB in the off season and if I love it, I might race a bit next year. I'm looking to MTB for road racing improvement, but also for the "fun" factor!

First thing's first: I need a bike!! I'm a 52cm on the road. I will likely be biking mostly on the East End of LI MTB Trails. I don't have a lot of money to spend on a bike, but need to find something that is safe and reliable for training. Those cold winter days might not feel so cold on an MTB 🙂

Suggestions?

Welcome ishmael!

There is definetly a fun factor in mtbing, its like training without the suck. Plus it is warmer in the woods when its cold and windy out.

I'm not familiar with the bike shops in NY but here is a directory of shops in NJ.

Halters Cycle's is a really good shop and they are always having sales.
Get a mtb and come out in the spring and race short track. Its a mtb race that last about 45 minutes with the same intensity of a cx race. They are held in March and a great way to get in shape for the racing season.

Welcome Aboard... yes it is always 10 degrees cooler in the woods in the summer so it stands to reason that it should be 10 degrees warmer in the winter...

Bike Junkie in Bethpage is a really good shop that is well known on LI. I've been dealing with them for over 15 years. Bought all the bikes that i've owned from them. The owners, Doug and Linda are on the up and up and wont sale you something that you dont need. Real good shop and good people.
