Hello, im Dan, been riding off n on for many years. Came across this forum on an internet search, and i love the trail directory! I usually go ride in the Harriman state forest. I was wondering if anyone knew of a good spot to go on a bike trail over 2 days that is about a 50 mile loop. A few friends of mine want to go out and stay on the trail overnight squatting, then complete the trail the next morning.

Hey Dan, welcome.I don't think you would "legally" be allowed to squat in any NJ mountai bike park to my knowledge.As far as 50 miles of trails,Kingdom Trails in VT could be your place from what I have read from others in here.This time of year I believe it is closed down however.Anyway check out the "Riding Outside of NJ" thread for more info.Good luck, Zach

Lewis Morris to Stephens via Patriots Path, Black River WMA, Schooley's Mtn has been talked about for years, but I haven't really seen any documented cases of people pulling it off. I think Norm is working on something. If you can figure out the undocumented dirt paths after Patriots Path ends, you can theoretically get to Stephens on mostly dirt. You can legally camp at Stephens. Then ride some sort of a loop at the Allamuchy parks and come back on the roads.

On second thought, you can easily get 50 miles in 2 days just at the 3 Allamuchy Parks, esp if you add in Kittatiny. I would start at Kittatiny to Stephens via Sussex Branch trail. Then camp at Stephens. Then ride Deer Park and Allamuchy North on the 2nd day. Here's one a bunch of people did last year in 1 day: http://connect.garmin.com/activity/98263021 - you're gonna want to modify the loop a bit to get to camping at Stephens.

The last option I can think of is some kind of RW, JH, Sterling Forest, Waway loop .. but those paths are not very well documented either. As far as I know the only legal camping is at Waway (from what I hear is very primitive camping). I can provide some more detailed info on the connectors if you need it.

I would go for the Mooch + Kittatiny option.

There is a camping area at Mahlon Dickerson Reservation in Lake Hopatcong. The site says about 20 miles of trails:

Don't know much only been there once.

However if you are new to an area it shouldn't matter if you ride the same trail twice it will still be fairly novel to you.

@Soundz:
Actually the Randolph Trail system also links into alot of that, but I have not explored any of them fully.

Heading to PA to ride tomorrow

im setting out on my first bike camping journey up this pipeline trail in Lakeville, PA. My only real concern out there is bears. I always ride my ATV down that trail system, and it EASILY goes for 50+ miles. If anyone is intrested in this kind of bike adventure, hit me up. There is LOTS of room at my friends lot to park and the trail is literally a block away.

I think WaWay is group camping only, 9+ people, but I'm not positive. Technically overnight camping is allowed in the Appalachian trail corridor, but bikes are not.

Wayway camp site are 7 minimum at all 3 sites. Each site has its own maximum; 15, 25, and 35.
Camped there last year with my son and friends and their kids. Very good time. Wish I had brought my bike.

now that sounds like something worth planning 25 miles first day set camp then another 25 second day

Heard of a nice long trail link today

Some offroad riding buds of mine told me there is a way to go from mahwah to jungle habitat. It would be amazing to plan a trip soon where you get dropped off at one location and picked up at the other a day or 2 later.
