Finally caught up with the last group, and rode with them for about 10 miles in the Belmar wind tunnel. Then pushed on solo to the last control before the finish. Caught 6 more at the the control and was anxious to leave when the final group rolls in so I hang with them a bit to see if they are only making a brief stop. I hear them talking about coasting back so that was my sign to say goodbye and the 5 of the 6 riders I caught was already gone. I catch the first guy in a GFNY jersey pretty easily as he looks gased, then soon passed a young couple who were stopped on the side. Shortly after they get on my wheel for a few miles and they eventually pass me and pull away. With about 15 miles left, a tall guy on a Soma passes me as if I were standing still. I try to jump on his wheel, but got nothing. I finish with a better time than last year, but I didn't have 5 flats to deal with and an under inflated tire for most of the ride.
Interesting final group I rode briefly with

They were all serious brevet guys and one gal. Not breaking any records but super steady. Rode well on flats but they never went past 15 mph even on downhills and didn't attack any uphills, which kind of drove me crazy with their pace. You can see the guy in the back who was wearing Levi's and maybe the guy further up with 10 lights. Can't call anyone a Doris or Fred, most of them have completed the full rando series of 200k<300k<400k<600k.What was the Fred count?
He's a daily commuter who logs in hundreds of miles a week. That's his kit along with cut-off deer skin work gloves. That guy did 120 miles in jeans and sneakers??
Sounds like OOS material. We need to recruit him. He's a daily commuter who logs in hundreds of miles a week. That's his kit along with cut-off deer skin work gloves.
Not terrible, even planning a short ride or run near work today. Think I'm going to get a bike fit on the road bike in a few weeks, I can't seem to get comfortable for longer distancesSounds like OOS material. We need to recruit him.
How did you feel after the ride?
I mean... anything over a couple of hrs, I would think would start getting uncomfortable no?Not terrible, even planning a short ride or run near work today. Think I'm going to get a bike fit on the road bike in a few weeks, I can't seem to get comfortable for longer distances
I don’t even like driving a car 125 miles. Ride a bike that distance ?I mean... anything over a couple of hrs, I would think would start getting uncomfortable no?
Attack uphills? Why? Leave that hill alone I sayThey were all serious brevet guys and one gal. Not breaking any records but super steady. It makes any climb so much easier, especially for rollers. Shift to a high gear approaching the climb, pedal like mad, then go up as far as you can till you need to shift or stand to finish. I've always ridden that way, I don't even know if its the right strategy...Attack uphills? Why? Leave that hill alone I say
I think it was a ride to Coney Island when @liong71er told me to "attack" the climb at Ft Lee.... I think I gave him a nasty look as I was about to throw up my left lung lol
