OOS MOGA

Okay, so someone needs to change the title of this thread. There were no OOS riders out today. Hopefully everyone had fun. Great to meet everyone. We did a mix of tech and fun including Schoolhouse, Skylands and new White. Wasn't expecting to hit Skylands, but everyone seemed up for it. Would have like to stay out longer, but had to take my daughter to her dance class. Will have to meet up again for some other fun rides. Sterling is always fun. So are Jungle and WayWay.
I was thinking the same thing. Then again Ringwood is not a place to ride if one is out of shape. Thanks for leading. After you guys left, we came across 2 gents on dirt bikes riding down the white trail as we were riding up it. Not cool.

Yea pretty sure I am gonna go with the DHR with a thicker casing and then wait till I blow out the front to swap that one
I could start a new thread on this subject. If you are changing the rear out you should probably put a new grippy tire on the front as well. Just my 2cents.

I was going to ask what trails in Ringwood are OOS friendly? White is very nice, but what other trails were you guys on? Climbing up the Red switchbacks always takes my legs out.

Avoid Skyline, climbing tech is not OOS friendly. I personally love to climb white dot but some OOS would rather descend it.

@JerseyPete If I was truly taking someone out of shape and/or beginner for a ride, I probably wouldn't go to Ringwood at all. If I did, I might barely leave the fire-roads. A couple trails down low like Black Bear, Duck Pond and the lower part of the Race Trail are a little tamer. Reference map here:

I feel like the theme of this thread is more about these rides being "no-drop", "non-race-pace", "accepting of all skill levels", "take as many breaks as you need", "you don't have to know your way around", type rides.

Nailed it! Good job @huffster

Those who have joined the rides either in this thread series or the previous beginner ride series, know that we just want to have fun on our bikes and go discover other parks where we would normally not go on our own. There are no "organizers" here that I know of so we prolly won't get things right but the intend is to have fun in the woods with great company.

We didn't go by the Red trail yesterday. I got a general consensus before the ride and tried to pick trails that were easier to start. Black Bear, Duck Pond, some fire road. Was going to make our way up the new white, but there was interest in Skylands, so we hit that. Then some more fireroad over to the white.

@huffster got it right on the type of ride this was. Made sure everyone was good. Lots of stops. Ride and have fun. Wanna keep people coming back for more.

So ordered up some new tires went with DHF II 2.5 front and Aggressor 2.5 rear with double down casing, hopefully, these work well and I can go more than a ride without flatting again. Gonna try and put them on myself so that should be really interesting, first try setting up tubeless.

I will stay with out of shape until my shape isn't round LOL.

reports are that the wheels were trashed... go get some i9 wheels with those tires son...

Wheels are still in good shape just slashed the rear tire on a rock, would love to go with some nice i9's but that is an upgrade for later on down the road

I had numerous tubeless fails in the last 2 years so take it from me... get an air compressor if you plan on doing this yourself. Not saying it cannot be done without one... just that much easier.

I have one or I probably wouldn't even try on my own. There are a couple good looking systems that can be used instead of a compressor but I don't need to worry about it.

Cool! can I come over and use yours to set up my Giant tubeless?!?!

If you are in the Morristown area, you are welcome to use mine as well. I bought the Lezyne pressure overdrive, and it inflates both my road and MTB tires just fine

Also should add that a squirt bottle of 1:9 soap:water solution really helps with tire mounting, although I've found that this may not be as necessary for MTB. For road tubeless, it's a must
