2 part question
1. I have read what Sheldon Brown had to say about open vs closed, and it makes sense to me. That being said, i had a stock open cam on my front wheel for 4 years with no issues, and am considering swapping back to a hope skewer for a bit of color coordination. Question is am i better off just sticking with my current $20 shimano closed cams? General opinions welcome.
2. This is where compatibility comes in. Recently swapped out forks, and the shop swapped out my old front skewer with the shimano i am currently using. They quoted some kind of compatibility issue that wasn't really explained, but not a big deal as far as i was concerned at the time. The fork does have a lip around the drop-out, which is what i figured played a role. I can confirm it is a PITA when removing the wheel to load up the bike (Missed last week's Allaire group ride because i left the nut a little too loose, and one of the springs got lost in the gravel in front of the house for 30 minutes😡.). Anyone know if i'm on the right path here, or would an open cam likely work just fine? If pictures are needed i can get them later. For reference, the fork is a 2012 Marzocchi 44RLO.
Not committed to a change, but any input would be greatly appreciated nonetheless.
