Pivot Trail 429 frame sizing

Pivot is basically a size off compared to ultra progressive geo brands like ibis and evil. At 6ft I would ride a pivot XL. Size numbers are meaningless compared to what feels right when your on the bike. My demo litmus test is steep climbing, if the bike is too short I’ll notice it then.
 
Great bike but @ 6 “4” plus ish I find the 429 a tight fit , slightly.
I think pivot is Due for an xxl like trek &. Santa Cruz -Kona as well , which make the roomiest bikes on the mkt.
The biking industry have neglected tall riders for way too long.
At least Santa Cruz acknowledged this with xxl tall boy & Hightower.

That litmus test is a little outdated. All the new bikes have super-steep seat tubes, so many will feel short even though they’re long. I demoed an Ibis Ripmo with a 475mm reach that felt shorter when seated than my old bike with a 440mm reach. I’m not necessarily a huge fan of this, but that’s the geometry these days. Putting a longer stem on would help, but that defeats the purpose of the longer reach, which is stability when descending. Point is, new bikes feel artificially short when they really aren’t.

Well thats what works for me. I run a lot of seatpost and will notice how the geo works for me pretty quick when climbing. Descending doesn’t make as much of a difference. If a bike is too short it will get squirrelly when it’s steep or on switchbacks. I love the new geo and steep seatposts, I finally don’t have to put my chest to the bars when climbing to keep the front wheel down. My bike has a 65 HA and climbs great.

I'm 5'10" and ride a large 5.5. I really love the longer bikes so this fits me perfectly. I find my son's large Ibis a little cramped.

I rode a new Switchblade because the geometry was so close to the Ripmo, and the cockpit fit felt very similar, but that's where the similarity ended. I don't know what trickery Ibis has performed, but I could do no wrong on that bike going up or down.
 
I am 5’ 10”, 30” inseam, long wingspan (6’1”) and I comfortably ride a Large. Through Halter cycles I test rode a medium and a large. The large was the way to go. Because of my wingspan I do run a 70mm stem, and feel I could even stretch it out to 80mm.

The medium was definitely short in the cockpit, way too short.

I’m 6’1” and sizing chart says I should ride large. I sat on a xl and rode it in parking lot of store and it felt perfect. I guess I need to sit/ride a large somewhere and see what feels best but your info here helps. Curious if you sat on a large as well before buying?

We have both large and extra large in stock. On paper I would think that you’d be a large unless you have short legs and a long torso and need the extra reach that an extra large will provide. We will be having a demo in June if you’re patient want to ride both in the woods.

At the moment we still have a handful of the ride, like a pro builds on hand, I’m pretty sure that Pivot is nearly out or out of these. This allows you to get a xo build kit for less than 6000

Looking for some info regarding frame sizing application. I was at my LBS looking at the Pivot Trail 429 (and they had a Mach 5.5 next to it). Both were size Large frames, but they looked quite short. The employee mentioned that Pivot seems to run a tad shorter than other brands. It was during my lunch break so I couldn't take it for a test ride.
I'm 5'8", and normally ride a medium, but the large Pivots looked like they would work. Any of you Pivot guys and gals have insight with their frame sizing and how they feel?

5' 7" and bought medium a few weeks ago. Workin out great also to note 30" inseam
 
5'8", 30" inseam and i ride a M Mach 5.5. Feels perfect for me and my riding style. If i was racing enduros, i could maybe size up, but probably not.
