Please do not blow leaves off the trails, leave your leaf blower at home

Please do not blow leaves off the trails. Sterling Forest is not your lawn!!

True, some leaf management is essential along the trail, primarily such that drains are clear and water can effectively run off the trail. However if one takes a blower and wholesale blows clean the narrow single track while not clearing the drains and out slope you will be creating a leaf lined ditch that water runs down and not off of. Unfortunately within the past few days Redback has been given the ‘leaf ditch’ treatment.

Leaf removal is a sometimes controversial topic. This article does a pretty well written and explains the potential benefits and detriments. It also explains how things can get worse if done wrong. https://arkansasoutside.com/the-pro...Y_LOtiyyj7UAHIsHJE_aem_hMiLhUbg_ZytYmG5uwjbjg

PMTB would love your help in maintaining the trails. Please contact us If you have an uncontrollable urge to remove leaves. We can point you at the ditches, drains out slopes and wooden bridge supports that need regular maintenance.

Any trail with a gravel base and tread should be free of leaves. Any dirt based trail should retain leaves.
