I know that you've experimented with studded tires in the past. May we assume that you didn't have them on the bike you were riding prior to the fall?

No kidding. I whacked my head last Feb when I broke my collarbone. My shoulder was hurting enough that I didn't really think much about the likely concussion.... but it was hard enough that my ears started ringing and I had to stop on the bridge as we were walking back to the cars. For better or worse, the three months off the bike afterwards gave my head the time to heal.
