Professional Bike Fit

I'm looking for recommendations for a professional bike fit.

I remember there was a thread a few months back where someone praised the person that did their fit but no name was given and I can't find that thread.

J at Halter's does a fantastic job...I just had mine done there recently and the bike now fits like its part of me

I had my fit done at Halters by Jay... just like the poster above me; I am very pleased.

Never realized how a CM here and there can make all the difference, especially on my road bike.

1 Beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeellion dollars!!

J does a great fitting really worth the time and money. He has fit me on 2 bikes and my wife on one.

I assume it's < the $375 Signature Cycles fit.

Any other opinions? I find myself in the same boat, looking to be at least semi-comfortable on the road bike.

Don Clapp in Long Branch did my road and TT bikes. I was there for 4 hours. Cost was ~$200 IIRC. He changed everything about my fit - angle shims for the cleats, moved the cleats, saddle higher, saddle forward, slight angle change, new bar position, all while riding intervals on the computrainer. I wasn't too far off and most changes were subtle but in total they made the road bike feel exactly 'right' somehow (even accounting for the placebo effect of spending all that money 🙂 ).

For all you guys saying "J at Halter's" can you give a little more info? Did you get into cleat adjustment/shims? Different length stems? Did you bring your bike or did you buy through them?

Looking to improve my comfort on the road bike, which has been causing me neck/trap pain.

J did all the above on my HIFI. Plus parts and shoes...

I've done a few. New shoes, shims, inserts, bars, stem in various fittings. First time I brought my old bike. Second time I bought my bike there and did it again. Now I'm as comfortable as I've ever been and I have one leg that is about a half-inch longer than the other.

yes, all of the above. He will tell you to come in your riding gear so that he can see exactly what you look like on your bike. For me on the roadie, he did cleats, shims, new stem and different bars. Just remember to call and make an appt., don't just show up with your stuff, you gotta schedule.

Thanks for all the info. I spent some time looking into the different types of bike fitting and came up with the following:

1) Static
2) Dynamic on a trainer
3) Dynamic on a trainer with video
4) Dynamic on a trainer with video and power measurement

At this point, I think I will do the Dynamic on the trainer fitting for both my road and mountain bikes.

The question I have is what are the added benefits, if any, of fittings 3 and 4 above?

Norm, you mentioned that you got new inserts. Are you talking about new shoe insoles? If yes, what kind. I recently started looking at the Specialized Body Geometry insoles.
