I am curious to read other suggestions other than "pry apart with screwdriver" or "hit with mallet".

If the cassette is toasted, remove it with freehub and throw in garbage. If it is still ok than put it together and use it. Either way you need to oder a new freehub body.

EDIT: unless your are going to use SRAM Red cassette
