Recommend wheels in the 1-2k range

A friend of mine is looking for suggestions for his e-gravel bike and road bike. Looking for suggestions around 2k for the ebike and 1k for the rim brake road bike. Didn't see any great sales yet and was going to suggest Light Bicycle and Hunt. He doesn't what to go the used route.
 
Do ebikes benefit from carbon wheels the same as analog?
Are these not ebike rated?
 
If Reynolds still does rim bike wheels I would recommend those highly. I've had the Reynolds Assault's for 13+ years and ~20k miles on them and really never had to touch them.

P.S. I'm no lightweight either.

I know you said not used, but there’s probably a lot of deals to be had on used rim brake wheelsets. It pained me to sell my all-city with CK/Pacenti wheelset. But, they were rim brakes, and I don’t see myself buying another bike with them.

Those days are over. Roval only options now. Unless you bring me all the stuff, which I still get quite a lot of 😂
 
While I haven't really looked into the options that deep, I haven't seen a lot of choices in pre-built rim brake wheels these days.

Of the big brands, Mavic still offers a couple of rim brake wheelsets. The Ksyrium SL for just under $1000 and an "S" version which is a little heavier and a bit cheaper. (skip this if you DGAF about tubeless) These are also UST tubeless ready if you're interested in trying that. I have some experience with UST on my mtn bikes 20+ years ago and it definitely works well (provided you RTFM), although tire options are definitely limited as it seems few manufacturers are willing to go through the effort to get the UST badge, which if I remember correctly is fairly stringent when it comes to tolerances and quality control. Right now, I'm not finding tires on any of the company websites that shows UST compatibility. A Google search only shows three UST road tires from Continental, Schwalbe and Vittoria that are no longer on their respective websites.

Looking at the website, it doesn't appear Roval offers any rim brake options for pre-built wheels.

Personally, I'll probably go to Halter's and have @jdog or his staff build up a set of wheels for me when I get around to going to 11 spd on my Colnago. I expect the cost will be in the $1000 range. Maybe a bit more.

My main road bike (rim brake) is literally 9 years old today. Ive been through quite a few wheelsets based on how much i ride. I had a set of older Cosmic Elites that were great but I hit a pothole and cracked the rear one (after like 10,000 miles). Then I had a set of Team Vision 30s that were really good and light those last about 15-18K miles and the same thing happened. The last 2+ years I have been riding carbon Mavic Ksyrium Pro wheels I got from a friend for dirt cheap and even tho they are older/narrower width they have been excellent.

Id just say I got a bit unlucky but considering all the road miles I do, its to be expected. the Mavics or Visions I would look to buy if I was going brand new (and had a 1000 budget which i dont).

I have a pair of HED Belgium+ rims I was gonna throw away if you want them. 24 hole. Brand new. Get some DT350 hubs and never buy a wheelset again.

Sold. Also here to ask about tires. Same guy, he has a Creo and I was setting up his current wheels for tubeless. Stock Tracer Pros have holes everywhere. So looking to replace them for him as one is cut too much. Which tires having a similar tread are more durable. He's mostly on the road and a bit over weight.

Thinking to go with either GravelKing SK or Pathfinders. What's the difference between the Pro and TLR models?
