Registering a tralier

I am looking for a kayak trailer as loading on a roof takes too long and it gets harder every year. They are fishing kayaks weighing over 100#s. What's the registration process? I've read you can't register one without a title but others say it's okay with just a bill of sale? What's the real answer for us in NJ? Looking at folding aluminum trailers that I can be stored inside when not in use.

It you purchase a non-titled trailer from a dealer, the bill of sale serves as your receipt to get a registration.

If you buy one privately, you'll need a copy of their last registration and a notarized letter of sale with a date and price to pay proper tax, and get it registered.

I've done this with boat trailers.

I've been told by MVC that trailers under 2500 lbs do not need a title.
UNLESS, it already has a title for whatever reason. Then it has to stay titled. I had this happen with a small camping trailer.
For some reason the previous owner had a title. MVC said that was a mistake, but they had to issue a title. Took hours of managers calling managers to get it done. They said come back in a few hours and it was done.

This! New often comes with Mfg's Certificate of Origin, which is best case and also accepted by NJMVC.

Any chance you're looking for a canoe trailer with (8) canoes?
