Do you think you're a more defensive/aware driver because you're in tune with whats going on around you and understand/know the laws.

Yes just because.

When I used to road race more, I would drive home at like 200 mph, driving like a total asshole. So maybe no.

I'm clearly more aware of bikers and pedestrians on the road than I used to be. And I'm amazed how many roadies (and runners) dress like they are purposefully trying to camoflage themselves with the road - wearing all black, no color, no lights.

@rick81721 yeah I see that a lot in my area. I was never a bad driver to begin with but I truly believe road riding gave me super human 8th sense and I can tell when someone doesn't see me or is going to pull out in front of me. Also drives me up a wall when someone doesn't know they have the right of way

I wore all black yesterday and today before and through dawn I didnt die.

I don't think riding makes you a better driver, just (maybe)more aware.

Got lucky.

Wifey doesn't even like my new Rapha bright green jersey - thinks it blends in with vegetation (but OK for fall, winter, spring when everything is brown).

have always expected everyone to pull out in front of me. problem is, ya don't see everyone.
i've t-boned two cars (with my car) that pulled out into an intersection where a car was turning, and they couldn't see down the road.
1 was approaching the turning car, and it would clear, as i passed. and there they were. the other i think the car in the left turn lane waved them through
in front of me. that was special.

Don't do that anymore, in the car or on the bike.....

but yeah, in general, i'm not very good at either....thought i was, but i was wrong.

i dunno about "betterererer" but i do feel more aware. i have a much better sense of share the road than i did pre-road biking, so i think i have just become more patient.

The last time i passed that Venus Fly Trap farm up on 514, I thought it might blend in with that.

Racing a car or motorcycle makes you a better driver... When you get in the car after going really fast in a race car or motorcycle, you feel like everything is in slow motion and your reaction time is way bettererer... erererer. + You better understand feel and breaking points.

er

Riding a bicycle doesn't do shit for improving driving a car.

Because I ride the bike it make me more aware to bikers when I drive. I guess that make sense...

I have been thinking about this for a while.
I wouldnt say a "better" driver but more aware...which is better. You can be very aware but still suck at driving if you dont know how to corner, control speed, judge the size of your vehicle, know your vehicles capabilities, blah blah blah....

I had a friend say to me "I never noticed bikes on the road until you started riding, now I see them everywhere!" So my riding increased my friend's awareness to cyclists, and hopefully she is now a more aware (better?) driver, at least in regards to cyclists.

I find after a particularly aggresive day of riding I need to reign myself in a bit for the drive home or I tend to drive the same as I rode. And yeah, it does piss me off a little to see cyclists do dumb things on the road because its the next cyclist that motorist passes that will pay for it.....

Years of riding motorcycles have made me a more aware cyclist. There's not a category for that doe.

For me, DH riding has changed my driving. Having it pounded into my head (through pain) to LOOK AHEAD!!! has made me do that when driving as well. So I look as far down the road as I can see in order to anticipate my surroundings.

Define better... if you mean safer? Then yes
But I rather drive like Stig.
Says it right in my 1st post

The question was boiled down. 1st post states more aware or more defensive driver. There is only so much room in the actual question
