Skills Camp

Yes you will 🙂 I used to ride out of control down hills like that myself. I would have bailed from the bike way before that guy did ha! Anyone who has taken the course has never had a bad thing to say about it. Some people get more out of it than others but pretty much everyone I encounter that has taken the course has nothing but positive things to say about it. If his camp was an iphone app it would have 5 stars 🙂

Gene also coaches some of the top downhill pros and some of those actually coach along with him so that says a lot about his coaching abilities.

I am probably missing the obvious but is there anywhere that lays out what each type of class covers and how it is most appropriate for? Not sure whether MTB or Core 2 is the better choice for me.

Cdub here is a link to the page that explains what the core 1 camp covers http://betterride.net/mountainbikeclinicsandcamps/mountain-bike-camps-clinics-skills-coaching/. Woodchuck is correct, you do need to do the core 1 camp before you can do core 2. Once you take the core 1 camp you will understand why that is and even the most seasoned riders will learn new ways to do a skill they already knew how to do. They also may realize that it is an easier way of doing that skill or refine their skills so that they can shave time off of their races or rides by riding more smoothly.

If you need any more information just let me know and we can chat or feel free to email Gene through his site or on facebook under Better Ride. He will get back to you pretty quickly 🙂.

Just checking in with everyone! The dates are fast approaching! There is a skills 1 camp at the end of june/beginning of July.... For anyone hemming or hawing because of the cost just remember this camp can teach you skills that will prevent many crashes in the future... hence thousands in hospital bills in exchange for only a few hundred for a camp..... just remember that a medivac by helicopter ride isn't always covered by your insurance. even a simple fall like soulchild had could result in surgery....Not to mention the coach is fantastic! just ask mare 🙂

I think you'd do well as an insurance salesman..... Would we get a refund if we stilll fell and had to get medivaced after the training?

doubtful but I can say from experience that it saved me for many falls and I can also more readily recognize when I might be in over my head and need to walk something as well 🙂... check out the site, he's pretty darn good at his job and Im not just blowing smoke...

This Camp is great! In just 3 months Mare took me from being a weekend biker with very little skills , into a sandbagger who now had to pay $$ to get a new USACycling license. Thanks Mare for all your help. I recommend your clinic to anyone that wants to reach the next level.

Its not Mare's clinic but it is the clinic that we took together and she seemed to really enjoy it.... just ask her yourself 🙂

Oops wrong thread. I will correct.. I know she learned alot from this for sure.

I wasn't implying that you were blowing smoke. You were convincing enough that I momentarily found myself sold on the idea!

wrong thread, sorry 😉

Haha!! Mitch is winning races and it's all because of me! Umm...not really, but it's funnier to think I am the reason!!!???

I enjoyed Gene's clinic last year and that's why I am taking level 2 this year!

Worth every cent.

Did this clinic last year and think about many of the lessons learned every time I do any ride. For me it was not mastering some moves but getting an explanation and demonstration of what the goals were in:

Where I should be looking... ( had that wrong )
What my body position should be and why.. ( wrong most of the time )
Braking ( much wrong )
Cornering ( I still come into corners too fast and need to brake too late )

My summer schedule is looking bad ( hope the proposed dates are not same as Stewart Six Pack ) but I will do another clinic if I get the chance.
( re-read dates looks to conflict with Fair Hills 50 not SixPack)

Awesome guys!! Do it!! I know the six pack is fun but you get more bang for your buck with the camp! I will be taking the core 2 skills camp in july

See you there Allygadget. Signed up for the CS2 a month ago.

On their website it's still listed as a "tbc" in NJ. I've not known them to hold camps in NJ before so I dont know what the likely destinations are.

The location is likely to be decided very close to the date of the clinic. That's how it was last year anyway. Alleygadget and I gave Gene some info on different parks and the terrain at them, but we have no idea where it will be. Could be anywhere in NJ at this point, but no matter where it is, Gene will be able to teach us.

SIGN up Signup before its too late! If you still on the fence check out http://reviews.mtbr.com/tag/gene-hamilton that link it is an array of articles that have been published on MTBR about Gene and his coaching skills as well as reviews from people who have taken his camp and even professionals that have gained some experience from him!

So the camp is next weekend so sign up soon! I know some people will be being racing at Stewart that weekend but if you are not I highly recommend taking this camp. It will improve you skills by tenfold. I know it did for me 🙂. Also it will save you a TON in medical bills. I know this from experience personally. Not to mention I haven't really seen a negative review of the camp. So what are you waiting for? Sign up!
