Sourlands Mountain Preserve Conditions

Pretty much perfect today. Only mud was bottom of the pipeline. Forgot to bring my clippers, pickers are starting to encroach on the trail already And got me pretty good coming down the pipeline.

Jeff if you talk to ranger Chris that widowmaker is between marker 5 and 6 (closer to 6), not between 6 and 7 as I originally told him:

Anyone free to show me around at a beginner pace on Saturday around 1pm? Have about 2hrs. Seems like a better bet than 6m at that time

last min plans... hopefully get out there in a.m. early before mother day stuff... might pull double after mothers day lunch.

Solid 3.5 - a few mud puddles should be gone in a day. Two trees down - one between markers 8 and 9, the other on the big boardwalk between 5 and 6. Not huge but I couldn't move them - probably two guys could do it.

PS heard something big crashing through the woods on red north of the pipeline clearing - usually deer don't make much noise so a bear popped into my head but didn't see anything. who knows

Awesome today, perfect. No mud and no riders, only saw one besides us 2. Plenty of hikers.

Couple of observations today:

The "widowmaker" has dropped now and is blocking the trail, unless you are @Mountain Bike Mike on a clown bike:

There's a smaller tree blocking the C trail that runs east to west between markers 8 and 9. Needs a saw to cut it - a folding one would do on that one.

The pipeline has been clear cut the whole way - wide enough to drive a truck. You can see in the background the wide brown area - probably goes all the way to Longhill. I heard a hiker was seriously injured there recently and had to be medivaced out - maybe that's why? Anywho, you can bomb the pipeline now without getting ripped to shreds by pickers.

Observations round 2 from today's run:

Big tree down blocking trail on white just past the south branch onto red/3 amigos (at roaring rocks). Will need chain saw to remove

The CR rock burglar has moved on to bigger and better things - noticed several rocks pulled out of the ground on trail, especially around marker 10

@Mountain Bike Mike would just bunny-hop it anyway. 😉

Awesome today! Overcast skys helped to see with all the leaves that are down.
Lot was filled with hikers, only saw 3 other bikers. Does anyone ride here anymore?

Not nearly as much as I used to ... Haven't had as much time this year. Did hit the Water Company trails over in Lambertville for the first time on Sunday. Almost like a mini-Sourlands. Good stuff.

You drive a black SUV? If so @fidodie , @michael.su and I were tempted to drink your coffee on your bumper. Pat suggested leaving a dollar which I thought was nice.

Water co is fun. I keep telling myself I have to get to the Sourlands (haven't been there in five weeks) but I just haven't directed myself there yet. Gotta ride it before the leaves take over.

Hey there. I do indeed drive a black SUV but thought I'd left my coffee safely stowed in the cup holder in the front seat (though was a little scatter brained that morning from trying to find the parking lot ... was looking on the wrong side of 518, go figure). Either way, contributions are always accepted and appreciated. I've been even more of a slacker on Sourlands - probably been a couple months since I've ridden there. Keep telling myself the same thing, but flowier trails have been winning out. Either way, first time at Water Co. was a blast.
