Sourlands Mountain Preserve Conditions

I went for a hike here today. The trails are going to need a couple of weeks to dry out. Even the upper trails had lots of standing water and deep mud, which is rare. Please stay away for a while.

Still not good but with just a little rain forecast for thursday, should be rideable next weekend. Did a recon run - white, all of red, back to white. Lots of mud on the bottom, and also some on top. There's a small pond off the red trail just past the pipeline clearing I've never seen before. Tree-wise we lucked out - some big ones came down but just missed the trail. Just a few small cleanups needed. There's a scary widowmaker on red between roaring rocks and the pipeline - a huge branch hanging on a bigger tree directly over the trail - not sure how to get rid of it tho - it's high up. Passed a clown on a fat bike at the bottom of new shoes and said it's very muddy, I wouldn't be riding. He said "thanks" and kept going. Lots of ruts (including his) in the mud lower down.

PS looks like first trail maintenance is sunday, April 10

I've seen him before!

Solid 3 today - some mud in the usual spots at the bottom and three little spots on top, otherwise perfect. Sadly that fun little 3 rock whoop-de-doo on red past the C trail heading towards the pipeline is no more - a huge tree fell right on top

I got rid of that branch in front of my tire

OK, so see a 3.0 on trail conditions page but also see that's from 3/12. Anyone been @ SL recently and if so, what do you think about me riding it tomorrow morning??? J-Dro, you been through of late? (Oh, and is the 4/10 TM day solid? Want to give a hand but need to get on my calendar.) Many thanks

I was here last Sunday but we got some rain during the week @blackburn1973 . Based on fidodie's 6mr summary from today, it's probably just drying out (6mr and Sourlands are similarly blessed or cursed with lots of clay in the soil, so neither drains well). I'm going to guess that it should be ok by Sunday since Sat is going to be dry.

And then the snow comes. Ugh....

Just got back. It's basically the same as last sunday - the spots that were muddy then were a little muddier today, everything else is fine. The one section on red just off the pipeline is actually drier than last sunday. Tomorrow afternoon should be a little better, then it goes to shit again. hopefully we don't get too much rain

Another year when 6mr dries out faster than the sourlands. Still some mud in the same places - not as bad as last weekend but more than I expected. Still a "3"

I rated it a "3" because, well, it's not "perfect." It's a lot like Rick described it above -- a few spots where runoff water from the higher areas crosses the lower trails, but there's little to no mud, and a lot of "hero dirt" -- in between the rocks, of course. Plenty of good riding!

Just did a post-windstorm recon run. Only one tree down on white that impacts the trail - one of the short boardwalks before the area we worked on last has the top of a tree on it - will only require handsaws to clear. Surprisingly dry too - about the same as last weekend. usual spots still wet - I guess the winter moisture is drained and it will dry out after rains pretty quickly

Two trees down on red between marker 4 and the pipeline - too big for my silky saw. One has a shitty work around already

i'll bring the big saw and take it out. especially if a work around is already forming. which way is the fastest way to get to it?
