one piece crank
1pc Cranky
I bought a Stashed wall mount system last April and absolutely love it, except for handling fat tires. They offer a Velcro strap eye loop contraption, affectionately referred to as a laugh (I bought three, so who’s laughing?).
It’s not that it doesn’t work, it’s just clumsy. And worst of all, it adds 5-6” to the hanging length of your bike. In my case it ate up my planned floor clearance and left my fat bike wheel touching the ground!
The solution: I picked up some cold rolled 1/2” steel rod at Lowe’s, fired up the forge, shaped it to match my template, and tempered it.
The standard hook (left, below) uses flat stainless. I was able to remove the roll pin, and drill the two slotted plastic pieces to a 1/2” hole, then reuse everything including the spring. I covered it with thick, adhesive, industrial heat shrink tubing to protect rim surfaces
(10mm wrench for size reference).
It’s perfect. Since I can hang any bike/wheel from it, I’ll probably make a few more.
