Sterling Forrest Group Ride 10/26/2026 9.30a

I don't mind hard. I don't mind walking when it gets too steep, too technical, or too rocky. My bike has more capability than me. What I can't do is go somewhere without a commitment yes or no to a beginner/intermediate group and that someone will always be there sweeping.
If you don't mind the opinion of a perennial beginner (me) I would like to offer that I only rode Sterling once and my only issue with it were with my lungs and legs A.K.A. as fitness. If that is your problem too, and as long as the group is willing to wait for you, you should be fine.

As someone that abused the patience of other riders a few too many times now I tend to stay away from group rides until I get back in some type of riding shape.

P.S. Bears need food too, so there's that...

"as long as the group is willing to wait for you" That is the key question. I tried (2 emails) but never got an answer from the event organizer on that question so I committed to a different ride with a different group at Allaire.

I guess one way to figure this out, is by asking how much more techy/rocky is Sterling then Chimney? I only rode Sterling once, and it was a few years ago, but if I recall correctly it was allot more techy then Chimney, what do y'all say?
The two new sections of Sterling are less rocky then the original 7 mile loop. They were machine built, which means more dirt was laid down to smooth them out. The climbs are longer and steeper than Chimney Rock. I would say the terrain is beginner friendly but the climbs are more intermediate.

Awesome time today. I think about 90 people showed up. There had to be over 40 riders in the Intermediate ride. We eventually split into two groups. @Shepard Grinker ‘s son led us in the “fast” intermediate ride. Amazing work up there. I need to go there more often.

Shep's son was on a ride with us about 8 years ago. Might have been Ringwood, and we explored the trail that would connect Sterling. He was young and enthusiastic then. Glad to see he still rides and is a leader!
