I have a brand new Curt class II trailer hitch that was supposed to go on my wife's 2001 outback, but the car got rearended/sold before I had a chance to install it. 1-1/4 Inch Hitch Opening. It will fit outbacks/legacys from 1990-2004 according to Curt's site
