...especially considering I few of the climbs were in 8/8 boost. I did finish the last 4-5 miles of the ride with the battery on the last bar.
I did add about 7 miles to the ride when just before the start of the first stage, one of my teammates discovered his cleat was missing a bolt. I donated one of mine and then rode back to the pit area (about 3.5 miles away) to get a new cleat before returning to hang out with the race sweeps for about an hour before we finally started riding. I was trying not to pass any of the racers in front of me, so I ended up stopping a lot. I eventually caught up to my teammates and rode with them for the rest of the day. I'd go ahead of them and then stop along the course to take video clips as they passed by. They all got a shuttle back to the pit area (upper loop) from the pickup area (lower right), whereas I rode back - getting a bit of single track in along the way. Still ended up beating them back by quite a margin of time as the shuttle system was slow.
As best we can tell, he must have caught a square edged rock just above the bead on the inside of his front tire and spontaneously lost pressure; causing the front end to completely wash-out. Long and short of it is… Hospital x-ray’d, it’s a broken shoulder. They sent him home in a sling, we’ll know more when his orthopedist evaluates.
