Sunday at the Shed (Fredrick MD, Watershed area). About 9.5 miles and 1400' of elevation change. We started with 8 and ended with 7, a few of us a bit battered and bruised (and slightly sunburned), despite a general effort to keep the ride subdued. But a "subdued" ride at the Shed is a relative concept... I was lucky enough to get through with bike and body unscathed. I also managed to pull off some of the most technically demanding climbs in the area, including one near the end when I literally said to myself, "Oh fvck... but I'll try this anyway..." and pulled it off. This was the first ride I've done at the Shed in awhile with clipless pedals and wow - a lot of stuff is just so much easier.
Less than a mile into the ride, Larry had an OTB and Rich had snapped the seat off the KS dropper on in Intense. So... it's gonna be one of "those" rides...
So Rich walked back to the cars and went home. Despite the DH looking appearance, Rich is actually the strongest climber out of all of us (I can drop him if it's really technical, but it's rare), and wears the gear because it gives him a bit more confidence on the descents. Conversely, I didn't wear any pads at all (although I probably should...).
The Hamburg Rd lot was a sea of orange and black plaid as we got ready:

Team manager (and route leader for this ride) Steve hitting a nice little 4' drop option on Soccer Mom:
With Workman, Larry and Cathy at the bottom of Upper Canaan waiting to regroup. A lot of the trail has steep rock rolls that were above some of the rider's pay-grades, so they took it easy. It really amazes me at times the terrain the Spot can tackle, although there were a number of times when I would have liked to have been on the Megatower - except on the long climbs when I was glad to be on a bike 10 lbs. lighter.
This was at the dip in the elevation profile at about mile 7.5, followed by a long, but relatively uneventful slog back to the cars (and beers!).
